I’m fed up of updating the app and it going wrong so normally leave it a while. But this app update is being forced on me - basically blocked the use of the app for any of my many Sonos speakers.

My app and system are up to date and everything works great. But I never have experienced any serious issues with the new app.

So I gave in and tried to upgrade the app
First time - it tried to download then just gave me an error.
Second time - it loaded, said it needed to update the products which could take several minutes. 10 mins later up pops a screen saying error 1001 to every speaker
Third time - it loaded, another 10+ mins but got a successful update message
App Home Screen loaded - got a message I needed to update the app software
Forth time - I agree and instead of app software it tells me the products need updating. 10+ mins later i get a successful update message
Then no sign of the app software update. So 45 mins after I started to update the software - NO CHANGE.

In my use-case I just got the latest Sonos App from the Apple App Store and post-update, I then checked (via the App settings) for device firmware updates… the updates available took a while longer, as I have quite a few Sonos products about the Home. They updated successfully.
I later realised I had left two Sonos Roams powered off and so I powered them on and ran the update in the App a second time to upgrade the firmware on those and all seemed to update fine.
i think error 1001 by the way, is a network connection error, so perhaps something is getting in the way of your connection to the Sonos servers, either local network, or mobile device related, perhaps, or maybe your mobile device, or network setup does not meet the requirements stated here in these two links…

I had many update and power failure issues, nothing was working right and none of the problems made sense.
A forum user told me to set static/reserved IP addresses for all my Sonos. Power them all down, reboot router and Controller, then power the Sonos back up.
Still no clue why that worked but it did, and still is.

Hello, Stanley,
how can I “set static/reserved IP addresses for all my Sonos.” when I cannot add a product to a new network? By the way: even in case I find a product I do not know how to do this.

It’s not too clear from your post what the issue with your device setup is. However I’d suggest to try wiring the device ‘temporarily’ to the router and see if that resolves the matter.
If the issue persists after that then it maybe best to reproduce the issue(s) seen and immediately submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and contact/chat with Sonos Support Staff via this LINK and see what the Staff can perhaps suggest to help you to resolve the matter.
Translation:

Each router is different - you can usually reserve the IP address against the device MAC address printed on the base or rear panel of the speaker. Checkout your router user-guide on how to add the address reservation to the routers DHCP reservation table.

Hallo, Ken,
is it possible, to wire a Sonos device to the router without the Sonos app? At the point: “add a new device” in the Sonos app really nothing at all starts. I can only read the letters of the words.

I’d perhaps give Sonos Support a call… they should be able to assist you. Here’s the link to speak to them:

I'm finding the app hugely laggy currently. I was away on holiday when the last release landed, and it's been this way since I returned.
If I'm playing a song, and that finishes and a new starts, the app tends to still display the old song for up 20 seconds, and sometimes more. I can't stop playing the music if I want to until the app catches up with itself. Nor can I skip songs in that time.
I'm on the latest firmware and app versions, using the app on android.
Internet router and all components have been rebooted to no avail.

Hey, Ken and Stanley,
found a way out - and maybe the source, blocking the app: my beam.
on the way to change the network, the app is trying to find my devices. It finds first and only the beam. I do, what I am said to do. In the end: no more devices can be added.
now: I took the beam of the current. And - great delight- the app found, updated and added one device after the other. And in the end I could add the beam without losing anything else.
I have not the slightest idea why it worked out. But I am happy.
The support I contacted before I asked for your help. Before contacting the support, I couldn’t find anything here, but was also not able to post and articulate my question.
A time consuming process/learning experience - but with a more delightful end than during 6/24 ( my Sonos and I moved in this apartment and the dreadful update hit us) through 11/24 (my brother came and successfully installed the system).

Perhaps screen-record what you are seeing when reproducing the issue(s) and immediately submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and contact/chat with Sonos Support Staff via this LINK and see what the Staff can perhaps suggest to help you to resolve the matter.

I might try that but seriously, what a faff. All of it. I'm just exasperated.

I allowed the update: my findings are:
(iOS)
From the Sonos App:
Performance degradation due to periodically looses or turns off a speaker.
Some instances of turning on the app- the App says there is no system, requiring turning off & on the app a few times.
Minor app issue:
App graphic no longer updates with the music. Again- turn off the app & return, & the graphic may update to current music- approx 80%. If not, a second refresh usually updates the image.
Air Streaming - works like it had before the update.
over all, this is pretty much a standard poor release for Sonos. I’m grateful I can still airstream.
Over all:
I am not sure that I will allow future updates. I fear loss of non app function.
