My original post was locked so starting new one.  Posted this 3 months ago, 3 months after the ‘upgrade’:

Hi Folks,

3+ months into the updated Sonos app debacle, here is a list of features that worked great on version 16 of the app but still do  not work on version 80 of the app.  I hope we can get fixes for these and check them off in less than 3 months:

    1) Add/Edit tracks to a Sonos playlist.
I use playlists heavily from music in my local Library. Some of these playlists have thousands to tracks.  Since the upgrade, I cannot edit them at all.
    2) Album art.
Album art no longer displays for tracks from my local Library.
    3) When viewing the queue, the app should zoom to the currently playing or last played track.
When a playlist has more than dozen or so tracks I shouldn’t have to scroll to find the current track.
    4) Touching the volume bar should allow me to adjust the volume for any of the devices currently being used.
Now I have to click the speaker list at the bottom. I suppose this is mainly personal preference.

I will try to post here as each of these get fixed (hopefully!).

As of today, #2 (album art) and #4 (volume control) are working normally. I just noticed album art working today: 6 months after the disaster.

Still waiting for #1 and #3.  The playlist is very important to me.  Playlists do not show up at all. Luckily I  listen to 1 frequently so it's on the ‘Recently Played’ list.  But all of the others I had created are no longer accessible.

Okay Sonos, it’s been 6 months.  Was it worth it?  The stock price pretty much tanked after the release and while it’s come back a bit, it’s not at the 52 week high.  Next time consider your existing customers.

Thanks!

MikeS

Does your Music Library show album art in the queue?  Mine does not on IOS.

Also see what happens when you load one of your playlists into the queue.  Pick one around 500 tracks long.

Yes, it does on my Android phone.

Sorry, hit send too quickly!

I loaded up the only playlist I can still see and it has 1000+ songs in it.  I can see album art.  Then I load the queue. The first 3 attempts it started load and then said ‘Unable to load’. But on the 3rd attempt it worked and I see all of the album art.

So it’s working, barely. : )

Are you Droid or IOS?  For my NAS music I get no album art when looking in the queue.  Also when I load one of my playlists that has a track count something greater than maybe 300 it loads over and over again.  My Cello Concerto playlist of 378 tracks loaded until I had over 47,000 tracks in the queue.  This is with IOS.

Android. I have a Western Digital local NAS for my local Music Library.

Here is a screen shot from a local playlist with 3000+ tracks.

Here is a screenshot of the queue of the same playlist. All of the album is showing up now!

Now if I could only access/edit my other Sonos playlists…..

Thanks,

MikeS

Is the playlist you’re showing me a M3U playlist that is in the WD NAS?  The ones that show no album art in my library are all M3U.  My music & those playlists are all in a SonicTranporter i5 NAS.

No, the playlist shown is one I created in the Sonos app in the prior version of the app (v16 on Android).  I have not used any m3u playlists at all on my app.  That might at least partially explain the difference of what I am seeing vs what  you are seeing with your playlists.

Very likely.  Thanks for all the info.

You got me curious so I checked out some imported playlists in my Music Library.  I do have some .m3u files on my Music Library, I just never used them before.  I found that for most it did show album art, but not all and it was not consistent. I suspect it may be it needs time to read/download the images or something like that. But in short, album is at least sort of working for imported m3u playlists on the Android app.

Hope that helps.

 @mfs2112:
My tags are all in order.  All other software shows the album art with no issues.  I have been using music control point software for over 25 years all the way back to SqueezeBox.  Many of them I used were for gear I demoed from audio shops in the Chicago area which required me to use unfamiliar control point software.  All of them without failure showed my album art.  Then there’s Sonos.

Screenshots are two M3U playlists in the queue.  The first one is small enough to avoid insane duplication until it reaches some insane track count.  Should load album art at that small track count.  Does not.  The second one is the playlist that contains 378 tracks.  As you can see that’s not the track count shown.  It loaded 126 times.  I can fully understand why album art would not load on that one.

As we enter the 8th month since the ‘upgrade’ I will update my list of things that still need to be fixed:

1) Add/Edit tracks to a Sonos playlist.
I use playlists heavily from music in my local Library. Some of these playlists have thousands to tracks.  Since the upgrade, I cannot edit them at all.

I am switching to m3u playlists since those work and I am create/edit them outside of the Sonos interface.  It’s unfortunate that I have essentially lost my Sonos direct playlists. :(

 2) When viewing the queue, the app should zoom to the currently playing or last played track.
When a playlist has more than dozen or so tracks I shouldn’t have to scroll to find the current track.

Still not working.  As I mentioned before I like having  huge playlists and then hitting ‘shuffle’.  When I check the queue it should automatically zoom to the currently playing track.

3 New one: When a .m3u playlist loaded and I hit shuffle, it re-loads the playlist  40 times.  For example, I have playlist with 1620 tracks.  Looking at the queue it shows 64800 tracks (68400/1620 = 40). This causes tracks to appear > once which is annoying.  I assume this causes memory issues too. See screenshot below.

4 The app is slow and seems to lose its brain sometimes.  I start it up and it takes up to a minute to refresh. Sometime a speaker is missing and few minutes later it’s back.  Could it be my wifi?  Sure, but it’s the same wifi setup I had pre upgrade and was fine then.

Then when Ioading some larger playlists it just loses its brain for a while.  It’s a large playlist so I expect it some degree but again, the prior version did not behave this way.

Still waiting to the app to work as well as the previous version.  Maybe by the 1 year anniversary?  Oh and by the way Sonos, I have not spent a single dollar on a Sonos product since the upgrade and I do not plan on spending any until the app is at least as good as the prior one.

Thanks,

MikeS

Found this in another post from 1 month ago:

We are aware of an issue when selecting a larger playlist (100+ items), that multiple copies of it will be added to the queue. This affects multiple services and Music Library. We are investigating, but have no estimate for when a fix might be put in place,

I will update this thread when I hear of a resolution.

Sigh.

So now I find that the app will consistently be unable to load playlists that are > 1000 tracks.  I know there has been a lot of talk over the years on that topic, but it was working find a week or so ago. So I wrote a script to break up my playlist into 1000 track files.  Sigh.
