TV sound not playing on my Sonos system when TV is powered up

I have a Samsung TV with a HDMI-Earc port for my Sonos system. I have a Spectrum DVR box connected to the TV. My Sonos system is a Sonos ARC, a Sub Mini and 2-Era 100’s for surround sound.

I am having 2 issues that happen from time to time, but not always.

#1) Sometimes when I power up the DVR box and TV, normally there is a pause for the sound until the TV connects to the Sonos system and then the sound would come out of the Sonos system. Sometimes the sound is muted. And what I have been having to do is to unplug the HDMI from the Sonos Arc and plug it back in. Then the TV will recognize the system and all will be OK.

#2 problem) While we are watching something we recorded on the Spectrum DVR box, after fast forwarding through the commercials, when you would play, there might be no sound. What we have been having to do for this problem is hit like pause, then play. Or back up a little and then forward. Stuff like that to get the sound to play again.

I am not sure if these problems are caused by the Samsung TV, Spectrum DVR box, or the Sonos system itself.

I have brand new HDMI cables, and my Router software is up to date as well as the TV. I don’t like having to unplug and plug in the cable all the time. It is harder for my wife who doesn’t exactly knows what to do.

I love the Sonos system, and I am thoroughly pleased with Sonos. I was having a True play situation that was solved when Sonos updated their software.

Is anybody else having similar issues?

Try this:

Disconnect everything from the TV and unplug the Arc and TV from power for a couple of minutes. Plug everything back in but keep everything disconnected. Make sure Anynet+ is enabled in the TV settings. Run TV Setup in the Sonos app and follow the app instructions. When the app instructs you, connect the Arc to the TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port using the Sonos-supplied HDMI cable. After the Arc has been successfully connected, connect the DVR to the TV using a DIFFERENT HDMI port than before.

I did as you said and for now, all seems to be working. When I turn on the TV the sound will come on over the Sonos system. We have not played a DVR recording to see if that function works. But for now all is good. Thanks for your help! I will let you know if something goes awry.
