Are Sonos speakers still UPnP/DNLA Media Players/Renderers?

I know that the new/current Nov 2024 Sonos app can’t be used to browse DNLA servers as a music source, but using other apps it is still possible to send files from a DNLA or UPnP server to play on my Sonos Beam Gen 2. I turned off the automatic app and firmware upgrades in May though.

Does anyone know if more recent firmware keeps the option to play over UPnP to my Sonos speaker? I’d be tempted to try the new version of the Sonos app+firmware if I knew that I wouldn’t loose the UPnP playback direct to the speaker.

Hi @busywait

Thanks for your post!

Yes - your Sonos speakers will still act as UPnP/DNLA renderers. You just can’t browse such sources in the Sonos app anymore (I presume the usage metrics showed that people just weren’t using this feature).

For example, you can play music stored on a Samsung phone on Sonos speakers by using the Samsung Music app (to play) in conjunction with SmartView (to ‘cast).

I hope this helps.
