Sonos Mobile App / Why?

Sorry, but your problems are almost certainly not caused by the app.  Something about your network is not getting on with Sonos.  It is not necessarily the fault of any individual or system, and can probably be fixed pretty easily.

If you want to describe your network and your Sonos system, there are people on this forum happy to try to help.

Thanks for the reply, and I understand my post was more of a rant than anything, but what else is there to try? 

You can only check for updates on the app. There is only one way to setting up a device. My wifi has no special extra-secure firewall or privacy other than just a standard password. 

The app just simply doesn’t want to stay connected, remember devices, systems, or my network on a consistent basis. Not sure what else to try

Bear with me.  So what router do you have?  Any access points or extenders or switches?  Mesh network?

What Sonos products do you have?

I have an XFinity router, not sure the model, but’s it brand new. “Gen 8”

The router is in the office where I have two Sonos devices, a Beam and a smaller Sonos One I believe, from a few years back. 

Downstairs I have two more Sonos Ones. Weird thing is the two downstairs stay connected to my Wifi, so if I get on the Spotify app I can actually find them and use them by selecting that system name, but only for those 2 devices.  When I try to manage the system from my Sonos mobile app I can sometimes find my beam and re-set it up, but it won’t stay added to my system. And my Sonos One in the office just won’t even show up. 

When I am able to create a “system” on the app, it will fall off the next time I try to use it. Every time I open the app it just says No systems found, and asks me to re-set up my devices. 

Are any of your Sonos devices connected to your router by Ethernet?  Experimentally could you do that?

There are no other network devices in the system?

I have had to set up my devices via ethernet in the past. Not sure if that’s still part of the trouble shooting options in the mobile app, but when my devices don’t show up on wifi I do remember having to go through the process of setting them up with ethernet.

But to answer your question, none of the devices are connected thru ethernet currently. Just trying to get everything working through wifi. 

Regarding network devices, I have 3x Google Mesh hot spots that help boost wifi, but the two devices that normally don’t show up are in the same room as the main router. 

Your network setup is the problem. You have two devices issuing.ip.addresses. You have split your network in two

 The Sonos app cannot find parts of the system because they are on a different network.

This is 100% definitely  NOT an issue.caused by the Sonos app. 

Can you elaborate on how my network is split in 2? 

I only have one wifi network setup, one name, one router, boosters are connected to the same name/router

Now we have to sort this out.  I suggest you start by

1 See if your router has a "modem only" mode. If it does, select this mode. If it doesn't, then tiurn off WiFi on the router and disable DHCP.

2. Ensure.that the only device connected.by Ethernet to your router is the.primary Google puck.

3. If possible, connect just one of your Sonos devices to the primary Google puck.

4 Power off everything and.power it all up again. Router, Google devices, Sonos.

Then please report back.

Google acts as a router. It is distributing ip addresses, as is your.routet. it is pot luck which device gets what. This doesn't matter with a single device like a smart TV. But Sonos has multiple devices that must stay in contact. Everything has to be on the same subnet.  Sonos doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of working on your network setup. Sorry.

But this is fairly easily fixed. See my post with steps to try first

I was able to create a new system that is currently connected to my two Loft devices (Beam and Play1)

But can’t seem to find my other two Plays downstairs. I just unplugged them, replugged. Still can’t find them. I’m going to try a factory reset on those two now. 

Factory resets rarely achieve anything. Have you followed the steps I set out?

Gonna have to try the step process later after work when I have more time.

OK no problem.  We can sort this and give you a stable Sonos system, I am absolutely certain. As soon as I read the symptoms in your original post I knew we would end up uncovering a Google mesh network or something similar. 

I think we are on different time zones. Other people may step in to take this forward, but I'll come back on at some point.

Yea, my biggest issue right now is the creation of multiple Systems when I try to set up new devices. 

I thought I had it figured out with the factory reset because it temporarily deleted a duplicate system, but while trying to add to my main System it automatically changed to a brand new system when I re-set up the device.  Now I have 3 systems..  it shouldn’t be this hard.  

I’ll attempt your step process later, but tbh it sounds a bit complicated. 

Sonos is only setting up multiple systems because it cannot find the earlier ones because your network setup hides them.

You should be able to do the steps fairly easily. Just Google "Xafinity (model name and number) turn off wifi" etc. There will be an online manual. Don't be intimidated. You can do this. There is help on here and there is Sonos Support 

Steps 2 to 4 are just cable connections and power cycling!

I get it, but you speak as if I’m running some kind of unique custom network here. Doesn’t the majority of people that live in a somewhat larger space run a router with booster pucks of some sort for the signal? I can’t be in the minority

I’m not really a tech guy, but Sonos should be setup to run off a singular IP based on the primary network name. Not start fishing for every IP address being broadcasted. And what’s the purpose of creating multiple Systems in one location if you can’t merge them or at least see them all at the same time in the app.  Maybe I’m asking too much.. lol 

Anyway, I do appreciate the help and you have convinced me that it’s probably not the App itself. But in general, it should be a lot easier than this. 

All you are asking for is for Sonos to reinvent networking. You have set your network up with two DHCP servers. The solution is to turn one of them off.

I am just trying to help. If you want to blame Sonos I really don't care, I don't work for them.

Not yet, but I think I’m gonna jump back into it today since I have some time

At the moment, I have 3 systems in my house from my failed attempts yesterday. I could be wrong, but I think once a device is on a system, you can’t add it to a new or another existing. 

I’m going to try your method first so I don’t have to move anything, and if that doesn’t work I think I can factory reset the two downstairs to get them off their individual systems, and then bring them up stairs and add them all to one. 

By chance do you know if a device will maintain it’s system association if you unplug it and move it to a new location? 

Hi. Unplugging will have no effect. If speakers are on different systems you will have to reset them.

I am not totally sure why these multiple systems are arising. Having created a system with one product, you.should just be using "Add Product" for the other speakers. Is that what you are doing?

So as not to be sabotaged by things you.have tried up to now, I'd be inclined to reset everything but one speaker, then use "Add Product" to get the other speakers added.

yea totally, I mean that’s been the biggest part of my frustration is not being able to simply add new products to an existing system. What you said did make a some sense in regards to the devices picking up random connections from signal boosters, but it’s still all just one wifi network. You’d think they would have figured that part out 

You have two DHCP servers. You have two networks. You have configured your network badly. ALL your problems stem from this.
