Roam 2 Voice Control Refuses to Perform Basic Operations

Back again with yet another Sonos issue that frankly shouldn’t be an issue

I have three Sonos products: Era 100, Beam and recently, (which frankly was a mistake investing more money in this product), Roam 2.

Someone please enlighten me why I’m able to use voice command on any speaker to set the volume of individual speakers but I cannot set my volume for my Roam 2 with voice command whatsoever.

For example, I can tell my Era 100 to set the Beam volume to 5, I can tell my Beam to set the volume to 10, but I cannot tell my Roam 2 to change the volume of my Beam OR Era 100 OR even Roam 2, nor can I tell my Beam OR Era 100 to set the volume of my Roam 2. Any time I try to change the volume of my Roam 2, it changes the volume in ALL my speakers. Like this is honestly ridiculous. It’s the same software. How hard can it truly be to have it consistent across all the speakers? Sonos’ whole shtick is “grouping speakers” but they literally took this to a fault. I should be able to control individual speakers with voice command, regardless of the type of speaker. Come on, man! Do better, Sonos!

Hello @User2847, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble using the Sonos Voice Control on your Sonos Roam 2 to control the volume of individual Sonos speakers.

I was unable to reproduce this issue. I asked my Sonos Roam to change the volume of my Sonos Era 300 and it did it successfully using the command “Hey Sonos, set volume 20 on Sotos Desk".

Have you by any chance switched the name of any of your Sonos Rooms recently? Please have a look at our Support Article Sonos Voice Control requests not working.

As a troubleshooting step you could try removing Sonos Voice Control entirely from your Sonos System and then re-add it to update the information registered, as shown below:

Remove and re-add Sonos Voice Control

  1. Open the Sonos app for iOS or Android.
  2. Go to the Settings menu and select General Settings.
  3. Select Voice Assistants, then select Sonos Voice Control.
  4. Select the room that’s experiencing the issue with Sonos Voice Control, then select Remove Sonos Voice Control.
  5. Once removed, select Add to another product, then follow the in-app instructions to re-add Sonos Voice Control to your Sonos product.

If you are still unable to change the volume of individual speakers using Sonos Voice Control with your Sonos Roam 2, I would recommend you to reach via phone to our Support team for live troubleshooting.

They have tools at their disposal to provide you with advice and information specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.
