Hi Forum

I am considering buying and Arc ultra soundbar to replace my Sonos playbar (optical connection only) I plan to keep my sub and 2xsonos 1s connected as a sound system in the room with the TV

My panasonic TV TX55EZ952B (2018) has an HDMI ARC port

So my first question is will this be a suitable connection to the HDMI eARC port on the Arc ultra soundbar?

My second question is will there be limitations of connecting Sonos Arc ultra to an HDMI ARC port (after some limited research I cant find out if the port on the panasonic is HDMI 2.1 either it just says ARC)

I have heard there are compatibility issues between Sonos and Panasonic is this true?😯

Thanks in Advance

Depending on the age of the TV, it may or may not support Atmos over HDMI-ARC (cutoff is around 2018/2019).

Thanks - sounds like I may be out of luck as this was early 2018 TV😢

You will still get 5.1.  You probably won’t get Atmos, but it will still give you surround sound.

A search using your TV model brings up this thread, unfortunately the user never provided any update on their issue, but I’m not aware of any TV being completely incompatible with Sonos.

Are you using the TV apps for viewing Netflix etc or what does your TV viewing consist of? The TV apps are unlikely to support atmos on your TV given the age of the television, so the fact you’re limited to connecting over HDMI ARC will not really matter, but if you later update/replace the TV then you will be able to take advantage of eARC at that time.

I located this thread: https://www.avforums.com/threads/panasonic-ez952-4k-oled-tv-discussion-help-experiences.2108262/page-316

On avforums.  It says you won’t get Atmos, and the internal apps give DD+ 5.1 from Netflix and Amazon, but only PCM 2.0 from Disney+ and Apple TV+.  Probably will need an external streamer to get the full effect from Disney+ and Apple TV+ services.

Thanks (Mr T and Jgatie)  for the replies - you are exactly right - my viewing on the apps is based on netflix, prime and iplayer mostly - so if I understand I should get a step up with the Sonos Arc ultra plus it gives me some future proofing for when I do upgrade to an eARC compatible TV and atmos compatible apps

Correct, also if buying direct from Sonos, check your Sonos account online for the available 15% upgrade credits on your existing devices.
