Not satisfied with the Era 100s as a surround setup.

I have a Beam Gen 2, Sub Mini, and two Era 100s as a surround sound system. Unfortunately, the Era 100s are not working properly, and the sound is too quiet even at maximum volume. They are not noticeable at all. I am quite disappointed. The Era 100 sound is strong, but not as surround sound. I am unsure how to fix that, or if the Sonos team can fix the issue. From my perspective, the Era 100 sound is fantastic and more than enough for surrounds if they perform properly when assigned to the room.

TV surround or Streaming Surround mode?

Have you adjusted the Surround volume in either/both modes?

What TV audio codec are you using when listening to TV surround sound audio?… What does your Home Theatre ‘Now Playing’ screen actually show in the Sonos App?

When playing music audio are you using the ‘Ambient’ or ‘Full’ surround sound setting in the Home Theatre ‘room’ Surround Audio settings?

I am using Full mode as a music playback setting. For home theatre, it is playing Stereo PCM instead of Dolby Digital 5.1.

So you can’t adjust your Streaming louder on the Surrounds in Full Mode?

I have settings under the Room Settings for Surround Audio for both Music and TV modes.

I don’t thing TV Mode, Stereo PCM isn’t going to send anything to the Surrounds. Try a 5.1 source with a reasonable level of surround content.

@Stanley_4 I tried the ambient mode; it remained the same. I set both the TV level and music level to +15. The only thing I am not sure how to set up is Dolby Digital 5.1.

Streaming Mode, Ambient has very limited content, it is intended to slightly expand the stereo image area, not fill the room. That is what Full mode is for.

If you stream something, set Full Mode and the Surround volume slider doesn’t impact the Surround volume you need to call Support and get that looked into.

Only other thing you could do before that is to verify that each Sonos is on the latest update, that is shown under the Settings menu.

TV mode just select a program that is providing a 5.1 signal. It should pick that up, show it on the Now-Playing screen, and work automatically. If it doesn’t there are tweaks to try.

The Samsung UN55TU8000FXZC TV model lacks a built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder. To obtain Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, an external device capable of decoding Dolby Digital 5.1 signals and transmitting them to the TV's speakers or an external sound system is necessary. Is there a solution, or is a different TV needed lol 😆 😂

@Sserj1

A couple of surround audio sources to maybe try…

Netflix App - Most movies are Dolby surround sound - try “6 Underground”

Prime Movies - try “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan" Season Four.

It looks compatible with Dolby audio —> or is this not from your TV user manual?

Not a TV expert, but trying to find the manual it looks like it has Dolby and an ARC port as well as the optical.

Maybe it has a pass-through mode? The manual I found has little information.

@Ken_Griffiths Definitely I can feel the difference with the 6 Underground movie. Thanks for the support  🙏

When watching that movie, just ensure that you are seeing “Dolby 5.1” audio input on the ‘Now Playing’ screen in the App, rather than “PCM 2.0” stereo audio, and that will at least show that all is working correctly.👍
