Why no easy Theater/Music switching option?

I have an Arc Ultra, Sub 4 and pair of Era 300’s. Surely it would be easy to add an option to the App to allow users to either use their system in full Theater mode for movies - or if they wish to use the two Era 300’s ONLY it would allow Stereo only - with all drivers functioning?

Seems like a basic capability that many people would like to utilise?

Did you find what you were looking for?

What seems like a “basic” capability is not always as simple as one might think. What you are asking is that there be an option where the Arc will send the music to the surrounds and itself go silent; or give the user the option to lower the Arc volume. You can possibly rephrase your post and submit as a feature request.

Honestly, I don’t see the point in having a stereo pair to the rear of the listener, but each to their own.

So music played through the Arc-Sub-surrounds does not sound good??

Hi @dealmaker

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

In my use case - ERA 300 Surround speakers are at the rear of the (open plan) room - the sofa is int he middle of the room facing the TV - but I also have a large table between the sofa and the Speaker's - where I sometimes work which faces the speakers - so this feature would allow me to use them for music (in stereo) when I am not watching the TV.

Use the bias controls to adjust the volume of surrounds relative to the soundbar. Seated where you are, with the volume ratio set to max in favour of the surrounds, you may not be aware of the sound coming from the Arc Ultra. Not the perfect solution, but it may be an acceptable compromise?

Another alternative that would be a win win for Sonos and people that don’t mind paying more:

Allow adding two Era 300 / Five as a stereo pair to an existing Arc Soundbar + Surround setup:

  • having the Era 300 as Stereo L/R would sound amazing for muwic
  • the era 300 as front movies could be used as dedicated L/R channel, the arc ultra would still play Atmos height and center channel
