Sony TV and Verizon cable box. I have earc HDMI connected to the TV and optical out of the TV to the Sonos Arc. Is there a better way to write this to take advantage of Atmos. I believe with optical I cannot get atmos

You’re correct, optical does not have enough bandwidth to handle an Atmos signal.
Normally speaking, you should connect the Arc to your TV’s eARC port with the supplied HDMI cable. You should not connect anything to the cable box from the Sonos.
