Era 300s not working as a stereo pair with a turntable

Hi

I have a Rega Planar 1 plus turntable which is connected to the left of a pair of Era 300 speakers. The speakers are set up in a stereo pair (which works fine for streaming) but when playing from the turntable only the left speaker works. I have tried connecting the white cable to the red and the left speaker still works. If I just connect the red cable to the red, or red cable to the white no sound comes out. I have tried another cable so I don’t think this is the issue. I have tried connecting the turntable to the right speaker and this works, but then the left speaker does not work. I have tried setting the Audio Delay under the Line-In settings to MAX, and have also tried setting the Audio Compression setting in the Sonos app to Compressed. I have disconnected the stereo pair and reconnected a few times but no resolution of the problem. I cannot see a balance slider when I look at the room.

Any other ideas?

Many thanks.

All sorted- the helpline person was great. It took about half an hour but we realised the issue was not with the connections but with the speaker which was connected into the line in. It wasn't talking properly to the one which wasn’t playing and was solved with a reboot.

Thanks all.

Hi @matthuggett, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your Era 300 pair playing turntable audio.

To play line-in audio to the Era 100 and Era 300, the Sonos Line-In Adapter as well as an RCA to 3.5mm cable is required. From your post, I’m not entirely sure how your turntable is connected to the Era 300 but it sounds like you’re still missing the RCA to 3.5mm adapter.

Your setup should go as follows: Rega Planar 1 → RCA to 3.5mm → Sonos Line-In Adapter → Sonos Era 300. If you have this setup already, can you share a picture of the cables going between the Rega Planar 1 and the Era 300 in your reply?

I hope this information helps!

Hi Jamie

Thanks for the reply. I think I’ve got it set up like that. Please see pictures attached.

Not sure what the next step is?

Many thanks,

Matt

From what I can see, the 3.5 mm cable isn’t fully seated into the adapter. There shouldn’t be any ‘gap’ that can be seen.

Thanks. I tried that but it’s properly clicked in and I also tried another cable with the same result.

That was my thought as well.  It does explain why you only receive one channel of audio.

If you tried another cable, and it ‘protruded’ as well, that suggests something is stuck inside the adapter, keeping the cables from properly seating. As @melvimbe says, it explains why you’re only receiving one channel.

This is the other cable so I don’t think it’s that. The Sonos adapter is brand new.

That’s certainly closer. But not fully seated. I’m not sure the inside surfaces are still making any contact to carry the signal.

It’s possible that you may have received an errant adapter. Manufacturing mistakes, while extraordinarily rare, do occur.  Have you called Sonos Support directly to discuss it?

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Huh. I’d have bet money on the cable not being inserted all the way. Ah well, diagnosis at a distance is always hard, I’m glad you got it resolved.
