Play5 Gen1 not working with Playbar in Sonos S1 app

How to combine Playbar and Play5 Gen1 in a single system to work in sync?

I have

  • Playbar
  • Play5 Gen1 (2 qty)
  • Using Sonos S1 app
  • Configured to work on WiFi

I have downgraded Playbar to work in Sonos S1 so that I can see all of them in single app.

However, even after doing that, the Playbar and Play5 Gen1 cannot be added in single system.

I am OK if I have to connect them by wired (ethernet or audio cables).

Is it possible to make a single system with all these devices (WiFi or wired)?

The Playbar and Play:5 (Gen 1) can be used on the same S1 system. The Play:5s cannot be used as surround speakers with the Playbar, but they can all be grouped together to play the same audio at the same time by following these instructions:

This helped! But when I use remote to control volume of speaker bar, it does not control the volume of other speaker groups.

Is there a way to sync the volume control?

No I’m afraid not. The P:5s are still separate speakers with independent volume controls, even when playing in sync.  If the speakers were bonded as surrounds they would act as a single unit, but as already stated, that is not possible with the gen 1 P:5.

You will have to use the Sonos app or voice control.  (You would need to add an Echo or GA device for voice control.)

Did you set one Sonos up and then add the others to that system or did you add them to different systems?

If so you could do a factory reset on the Playbar (that will remove everything from it) and then add it to the 5’s system.
