Why do songs end abrupt just before real end?

I am using up to date sw om my system and app. I have Sonos Connect gen2 playing Tidal. Why do songs end abrupt just before real end? I do not find any setting about fading between songs. Anything I can do?

I am using ethernet cable to the router. I have 1GE switches and 250Mbit WAN.

Hi @Marten H

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear about this issue you are having with tracks on Tidal ending before they are supposed to.

In my testing, I have been unable to reproduce this behaviour either with the Laurie Anderson album mentioned, or with Jackson 5 and “ABC”. The former played without gaps.

Therefore, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

Before doing so, however, I recommend that you first try rebooting your router by switching it off for at least 30 seconds, and please try removing Tidal from your system and adding it again too:

Remove a music service account from Sonos

Add a music service to Sonos

I hope this helps.

When you tap the three dots bottom right on the Now Playing screen, is Crossfade turned on on the next screen? (You say you can’t find any setting for crossfading). If so, turn it off. Crossfading on certain services, especially those with higher resolution/bitrate tracks is woeful on Sonos…

It might not be the solution for you though, and maybe you don’t have Crossfade on.

Just a suggestion to check…

I am listening to Laurie Anderson, Amelia. The whole album is played in one flow. Works nicely on my laptop connected directly to the amplifier when using Tidal. When I use Sonos there are very frustrating interrupts and silent delays between the songs. Tidal seems worst followed by Spotify.

Thank you @Rhonny. I found the crossfading settings. It does not matter if I turn it on or off, I have the same issue with songs ending abrupt just before the end.

To me this seems to be a bug. Anyone else with the same problem?

Just tried Amelia using the integrated Spotify service on the Sonos app.  It played “gapless” as it’s supposed to.  I don’t have Tidal to test this.  I played it to the Arc-Sub-300s system.  An iPhone 15 was used for this test.

I have no idea what would cause gaps or abrupt endings.  Seems like it’s not just a Tidal issue if Spotify also suffered from this issue though to a lesser degree.

 Interesting album.
