Should I Upgrade the App

The new App is better but still not perfect.

Annoying bugs remain like the fact that if you look at the queue on a playing speaker you do not see the current song but the first one in the queue.

I would say that, if you are happy with what is still working for you on the old App, it is worth wating -8 more weeks to see where they get to with the new App.

One thing to take into account here is that we have definitely entered the “disappointment fatigue” stage in the community. I would say that a lot of users have just given up complaining and a lot of the posts seem to come from the less regular users who are suddenly discover that their system is broken.

Ultimately though no one here can accurately advise you as I’m not sure that many people have managed to keep the old App working this long but I sense that those that have are resisting change at all cost.

A provocative question, indeed, @Green Beans; if your intention is to run a straw poll on Sonos executives' bonuses I definitely come in on the "no" side of the count. I am one of those who, as @Gaham notes, have managed to avoid the firmware upgrade which sneaked in during July and I'm definitely staying that way. 

To your primary question, my advice as a fellow Android user is to stick with 16.1 for now, the main reason being that the "upgrade" to the V80.x app brings with it the dreadful V80.x firmware on your speakers. The indexing system it implements renders any albums which have two or more named Artists (all compilations and a surprising number of others with a "featured artist" on a track) virtually unplayable.  As a NAS user you would probably find this frustrating to say the least. It also fails to display album art in any of the placeholders created for it, which is also a major fail if you appreciate cover art. 

At the moment I am using the old S1 app so as to bring back into use some old speakers. This works just fine, but if I hadn't wanted to use the old speakers I would have been very happy to stay with V16.1 which I think is a bit better. I just can't be bothered to re-configure the speakers I downgraded to S1 at this stage.

I also have the latest V80 running on my S2-only speakers. It is only there to catch upgrades which I check out to see whether the missing functionalities have been reinstated. Until they are I am staying with S1 and I would strongly suggest you stay with 16.1. 

Having said all that I can see, like @Pools-3015, that the new S2 has the potential to be a real improvement and I am not one of those threatening to sell/dump my Sonos gear. I think they will sort it eventually,  although it looks like it will be a long time coming. I'm going to wait it out on S1.

If you run from a NAS, do NOT upgrade. Search the threads on compilation albums etc. There is also still no alpha-jump for navigating your local library either. 

If you decide after that you want to do it, well that’s up to you, but go in forewarned.

What is greyed out for you?

Assuming you don't need the app for ACE, I see literally zero point in updating as it will probably have less functionality that you currently have.

Why is it being called an upgrade as opposed to an update?

Technically it is a down grade 😂😂

Is that a bug? A queue, by definition, is “what is to come next”. What’s currently playing is no longer in the queue.

Whether it is a bug, a missing feature, a criminal oversight or just and indication of how stupid Sonos were to release the App on 7th May is pretty academic at this stage and seems to make zero difference to the speed at which they resolve things.

I would agree though that technically it is a feature that has been incorrectly implemented. 

In 2 days this will have been going on for 5 months with no end in sight. How did Sonos ever think that this App was nearly ready?
