I have purchased a Sonos Arc, I already have a good pair of in-ceiling hard wired speakers, a set of front Left/Right hard wired speakers and a powered sub.

Can I use the Arc for just the Center, add two more Sonos Amps, one for the fronts and one for the rears along with running the powered sub?

Or should I return the Sonos Arc and just use two new Sonos Amps with my current hard wired speakers along with the powered sub off one of the amps?

With a Sonos Arc, you can only use the rear speakers as surrounds (powered by a Sonos Amp). You cannot use the front speakers or the subwoofer with the Arc.

You can use all four hard-wired speakers and powered subwoofer with two Amps, but you will be limited to Stereo PCM and Dolby Digital audio. You will not be able to play Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, or Multichannel PCM audio with this setup.

No, the Arc can only be configured as the front channels. Using Amps seems to be your best option. “Front” one drives your left and right, and creates a phantom centre channel.

Thanks guys, sounds like the ARC is going back and I will for now and I will go with the two Sonos Amps route.

This TV is mostly used for watching the morning news and sports events (US football, tennis, baseball etc).  I have a true dedicated home theater in a separate room, so I’m good with that.

Too bad Sonos doesn’t have that option to use the ARC as a center channel only.  It would have been a sleek setup in my application.

Next clarification question,

If I am going to only use the two Sonos Amps for my TV setup, is the preferred method to use the TV’s HDMI ARC directly to one of the Sonos Amps, and connect the powered sub to that Amp?

Thanks again for the help!

The 3rd party subwoofer must be connected to the Amp used for the fronts (the one connected to the TV with HDMI-ARC).  The sub out is disabled for the Amp used as surrounds.
