SONOS ARC won’t work with TV after playing music via Spotify

My SONOS ARC won’t switch back to TV after playing music via Spotify. Given the amount of other people experiencing this problem it looks like a bug in one of your recent software release. Could you test the relevant Use Cases in your test lab and let me know the fix please. The ARC is currently not useable for primary task and I don’t won’t to have to return it to John Lewis as unusable, for what is probably a small software fix. Thank you.

Note that the TV needs to start sending a signal, it can’t be already playing but you’re not listening to it. The Sonos system looks for, when using the TV autoplay system, a beginning of a signal, and can’t understand that there’s already an existing signal there. It looks for a “I’m getting zero input, hey, now it’s not zero” over some period of time.

It will never assume that now that you’re not listening to music, it should switch back to the already running TV set.

Do you have TV Autoplay turned on under the Arc’s settings in the Sonos app?

Hiairgetlam,

could you be a bit more specific about which of the interface processes you think are not working? I a software systems engineer specialising in interface so would be comfortable with more technical detail especially interface standards (I assume you work forSonos). This function worked last time I used it at Christmas, but has stopped working recently after a software update.

kind regards

paul

i do not work for Sonos, if I did, I would be required to have a “Sonos employee” label as part of my identification on this forum.

If it was working before, and isn’t now, I’d suggest that there’s something odd going on, and a simple reboot/reload of the OS on the device might fix the issue.

To my knowledge, and the release notes, sparse as they are, there’s been no work done on the code part that autoplay is part of.

Of course, if you’re in code, you realize that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been affected, but I take the lack of thousands of complaints on these forums as a suggestion that it’s not code based, but some local condition in your particular environment. Could be wrong, but you haven’t provided any evidence to Sonos in the form of a diagnostic that might assist them in tracking down your particular issue. So you might be right, it’s endemic to the code, but seems unlikely to me. Both of my Arcs continue to work as they always have, but then again, I rarely repurpose them to play music, either, I use a separate set of speakers for that purpose.

Just in case you aren’t aware of how you can manually set the Arc to play TV audio, you can go to the browse menu on the Sonos app, then scroll down till you see the TV option.  If you do that and still don’t hearing any audio from the TV, then there is an issue with the connection to the TV, perhaps the TV doesn’t have ARC/eARC turned on or something of that nature.

It’s hard to tell from your description as it seems at first like you are talking about autoplay, but then act as if you can’t get TV audio as well since you say it’s ‘not useable for primary task’
