I was wondering if the placement of my Sub 4 could damage or alter the performance short or long term?
My Sub 4 currently is placed between the couch and the wall. The wall has a socket where the Sub 4 is plugged in - while the plug and cable itself are placed inside the Sub’s opening, between the two drivers.
Could this be detrimental to the performance of the Sub 4?
Ideally it would be totally between the two drivers to hide the plug and cable completely.

The Sub output is severely blocked in that position. You should have an open area in front of the middle opening on at least one side so that both the output from the front of the Sub and reflections from the back have somewhere to go. What you have there is like two mirrors facing each other, except they are reflecting sound waves instead of light.

Under the sofa works because it hits the flexible sofa cushions under your butt. The position pictured in your post only hits immovable, reflective walls. If you can put it anywhere else, it would be far better.
But no, unless the plug is touching any part of the enclosure, I don’t think the Sub will be damaged any. The performance will be harmed plenty though, which is the other part of your question.
What I'd suggest is what I have with my old Sub. Move it away from the plugs and against the opposite wall. That removes the damage issue and likely gets you better sound.
Second thing is get a plug adaptor to reorient the cords direction. Either front/back, down or low profile rotating. I use all of these in different rooms.

As others have said the position of your sub is suboptimal for performance (no pun intended). Also I’d not have anything inside the sub. The driver cones should not come in contact with any foreign object.

Just to be sure we are on the same page, when I am talking about the plug or cable in the hole of the Sub, I am not meaning it touches anything inside, but just hovers between the two drivers.
Also, the left side of the Sub on the photo is a leather couch, I don’t want anyone to think it’s a hard object.
I don’t know what you mean by “hover” unless you have an anti-gravity device inside your home somewhere 😂. However...seriously...the sub was not designed to have anything inside the cavity with the drivers. Given that you seem to be resistant to advice given by all who have responded (in every aspect) there’s really nothing more left to say (at least not by me). That said….enjoy your Sonos and Happy Holidays!!!

My sub is happy with one side hard up against a sheetrock wall under my desk.
It has a wrap of speaker cloth to prevent things from getting inside.
And yes I really need to go back and deal with my wires that have been getting worse for ten some years.
