Sonos One won't change wireless network

I’ve recently moved and my Sonos One (S2 v84.1-63110) won’t recognise the new wifi. It works if I use the cable, but I’m unable to change the network info to allow it to connect by wifi. I’ve followed the instructions at https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/connect-sonos-to-a-new-router-or-wi-fi-network. I’ve factory reset it, but my app can’t find it if it’s not connected directly, and even when it is, if I choose `Update Network` it tries to find nearby devices (which it fails), rather than updating the one it can see on the network. How do I change it?

Solved. I had to reset the app to clear the existing devices. Sonos wasn’t finding the speaker because it was already in the system. Very poorly thought out network management and poor documentation. You shouldn’t need to disconnect the network and remove the device just to be able to configure the wifi credentials.

Things probably would have been easier if you had copied the SSID and password of the old router to the new router. Things would have connected automatically, including your One.

What you need to do now is to factory reset it again and set it up while connected to your router with Ethernet. Check for updates as well.

When done , you should be able to remove the cable and the speaker will work wirelessly.

Unfortunately, our internet provider doesn’t let us set our own SSID or I would have done that. My system is up to date according to the app. I have the same problem whether I reset it with the network cable connected or not. Either way, choosing Update Network leads to the app trying to find the system and failing.

I just had the most ridiculous conversation with Sonos Support. I can’t update the network because my app can’t find my Sonos. Support says that it has to be connected to the wifi before my app can find it. Then how can I set the wifi password in the first place? How does it know which wifi to connect to?

A few hours into this mess…

I have a single play:3 that I can connect to a wired setup. How.. starting from this can I ADD a wifi network?

Doing setting → network → manage network → “update network does not allow me to manual enter  WIFI settings.. WTF?

A workaround is to use a second mobile device as a WiFi hotspot that has/broadcasts the old routers WiFi SSID/Password (credentials) and just logon the speaker(s) and controller device to that hotspot and then change the speakers network settings to the new WiFi.

The above helps save losing all system settings (Sonos Household) and it saves a lot of time too.
