I have S1 controlled system, because of a ZP100 that I have, and several Sonos Ones. We want better streaming alternatives and I started to move to the S2 controller, but I can’t add the Sonos One. It wants to update the software but also attach to the Sonos One private network, which doesn’t have access to the internet to download the software and fails.

Sequence of events:

  1. Place Sonos One in pairing with blinking light.
  2. S2 app sees the Sonos One and starts to add it.
  3. Allow microphone and location access
  4. S2 indicated, “...let’s connect your mobile device to you Sonos One’s temporary network...”
  5. Connect to temporary network
  6. S2 app says there is an update available
  7. Click Update, S2 app goes to screen indicating that it is restarting the Sonos One.
  8. Sonos One does not restart or do anything except having the blinking green light.
  9. S2 app times out and goes back to step 2.

I guess a couple questions are:

  1. Can it get to the software update while the Sonos One is on the temporary network?
  2. Should the Sonos One be restarting with some network config parameters in Step 7?

Any help is appreciated.

You could have simply used this procedure to update the Ones to the latest app:

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/update-to-the-latest-sonos-app-using-the-s1-controller

Did you reset the One before attempting to update? If so, try using the above procedure for the other Ones, then try and re-add the problematic speaker to the system.

If the speaker still fails to be added, try connecting it with a cable to your router/network to see if that helps.

If you have a Bridge, you will need to remove it because it is not compatible with the new app.

You might also power down all S1 devices before trying the upgrade.

I'd reboot the S2 ones, router and controller to remove any S1 networking information.

Thanks for the responses. I was able to update it by connecting it via ethernet. It didn’t try the private wifi network and found the update.
