I was under the impression the new IKEA speaker would link to my aging Play 5 gen 1. The Play 5 only runs from the s1 app. This won't recognize the new Synfonisk gen 2 speaker. Any advice would be welcomed

Those two speakers are not compatible because the Play 5 needs the S1 app and the Symfonisk is only compatible with the S2 app. See here:
