When I try to play from Apple Music and use AirPlay to my Sonos/IKEA Symfonisk speaker, the sound stops after one second.

This happens on both my MacBook Pro and iPhone X. When using the Sonos app on my iPhone, it works fine. However, it means that I can’t play from my MacBook and have to manage music in 2 different apps.

I tried updating all apps and rebooting all systems multiple times. The wifi connection is strong. Sometimes (1 out of 20?) times I'm able to stream from Apple Music directly, but that’ll only work for a little while.

Does anyone experience the same? How can I fix this? Is there an app for Mac that would allow me to play Apple Music to my speaker?

I’ve found a way to circumvent this issue on the MacBook. Instead of casting from the Apple Music App, you can change the output in Settings:

  1. Go to System Settings
  2. Click on “Sound”
  3. Under “Output & Input”, select the speaker you want to use

As a shortcut, you can use the shortcut menu in the top-right and click on the AirPlay button to the right of the volume bar to select the right output.
