Hi,

question. Did anyone notice that their paired Sonos Era 100s (or possibly 300s) did not update properly?

the app said I had firmware update for my devices (shame it does not list which devices, as for example my current WiFi setup includes a sub as well). The notification does not say what is being updated and there is no link to a post but, fine, I can spend time searching for a post when I’m Ona. Bathroom break, right? (I’m being a bit sarcastic here, though in reality, I can live with that unless something starts to act fidgety after the update).

but, my system supposedly updated and now it shows that only one Era 100 has the current build installed. Pushing for updates within the app only gives me “your system is up to date” response - which is not true.
I did restart the speakers and the sub - disconnected form power supply and let them rest for a bit. I checked internet connection. And?

still, as visible on my screenshot, one 100 remains using the older firmware.

Sure, I could unpair them and try again. But - I have now a truly well done TruePlay with additional settings. Working just how I like it to. For one, my neighbours have a little baby and they are angry with me about the beeping sound when true playing. Two, the advanced Trueplay requires a lot of effort on my part cause I am on a squicky wheelchair so to move around while waving the iPhone in the air around the room while truly keeping the room silent is a challenge. And no, I don’t have anyone to ask for help. So I am not really sure if the firmware update is even worth going through all that again.

Edit: also, one of 100s connects noticeably later than the other one when playing music, it keeps being noticeable when playing the next song manually rather than playing continually from a playlist

any thoughts?

Have you force closed or reset the controller? Which controller are you using?

Hi @buzz,

S2 on iPhone 15 Pro running current OS. Sonos app up to date.
yes, I forced closed the controller, and I did the speakers, and the router (TP LINK ARCHER MR505)

I have even restarted the iPhone completely to see if it affects the Sonos app.

edit: Also, the speakers are from “the same batch”. Bought as a pair, shipped together directly from Sonos in one shipment this January.

I think SONOS would be interested in having a diagnostic to work with. Phone support after sending the diagnostic. It’s odd that the left speaker is showing a different version, but the same build number as the other units.

The delay in starting tracks suggests that there is a network issue. This might also upset the timing on update processing — causing the failure to fully update. WiFi interference will leave tracks in the diagnostic. You could experiment by temporarily swapping physical locations of the two speakers.

@buzz thanks! I will try switching sides and get the report anyway.

I actually got an error during this update myself, can't remember if it was the RL or SL Era 300, it wouldn't connect to my surround sound setup. I turned off my 2XEra 300 and Sub4 (are in the same power socket) restarted after 5min then everything worked again.

Yours is a bit strange because Version 16.7 shouldn't have build 84.1-64070. Since you only have 3 speakers paired, I would try removing them from each other and try updating each one separately while the others were turned off.

@Peter_254 Trued that already so also lost the true play setting. Was going to let it go but the issue persists. Same with latency with one 100  joining slightly later during music streaming.
I checked the WiFi in all ways I can think of. Also, the router is in the same room and in clear line of sight of all three devices, with signal strength around 60-70 dB. Still, firmware on one stays weirdly behind and the latency issue persists.

I am kind of fresh out ideas.

Have you tried a reset on the speaker that is having problems?
Normally, they advise against doing a reset, I don't know why 🤷🏼
I've done it before on a number of speakers without any problems, I think it can only help or just stay on the same firmware.

Yeah, I tried resetting. I figure I maybe try and borrow the usb-c Ethernet adapter from a friend and see how it works on a wired connection. Though… there is truly no reason for the speakers not working properly on WiFi. The setup is too simple, unhindered, and the bandwidth in general is not heavily loaded. I stream Plex and play or work on big data files like imaging diagnostics on a dedicated network, separate from basic home and entertainment services network which has full capabilities though for security reasons I keep it separate and it does come from a different services provider with less security and advanced features. Rather a simple plug and play 3.5Gb on average, dual-band network. Using automated band selection (Tp-Link’s solution). Good ping too (19 ms) on avg.
