I see that era 300 speakers are on sale for $100 off now, but I am concerned that after spending thousands of dollars over the years on Sonos products as to the health of the company because of their app fiasco as to whether they will be around in the future. Not sure what to do.

To me it looks like Sonos is recovering, too slowly to make me really happy, but recovering.

I'm still buying new speakers when I have a spot for them.

I totally get where you’re coming from — the recent app issues definitely shook some confidence in Sonos. That said, the company still seems to be doing well overall and has a strong presence in the premium audio market. They’ve acknowledged the app problems and are gradually rolling out fixes, so things should improve over time.

If you already enjoy the sonos sound and ecosystem, I’d say it’s still a pretty safe investment, especially with a $100 discount on the era 300s — they’re excellent speakers. but if you’re worried about long-term support, maybe buy just one now and see how the app and updates progress before expanding further.

Thanks for your replies. I am just concerned because of the money they’ve lost and of their sales being down. Hopefully, they’ll regain their focus on product quality and customer satisfaction.

To be honest at this point since the app fiasco IMO Sonos is back to where it was before May 2024. The new app changed something’s due to the fact that Sonos could not continue to progress with the old software. Things like SMB1 are no longer viable but that is the same for all devices Sonos or not.

My system runs without issue. However, my Sonos gear is designed to work with the new app. Meaning my oldest product is a Port. My speakers are all S2 only. Some legacy products may have a few glitches until certain network adjustments are made.

IMHO the issues we are seeing with the app are normal in terms of as things progress new issues will occur. However Sonos is addressing (IMO) issues as they are recognized and/or brought to their attention. One has to remember that Sonos tries to make things as generic as possible in terms of networking equipment and device OS’s, but they have no control of how manufacturers develop/design their equipment.

Therefore, Sonos is always in a reactive mode as it relates to 3rd party hardware that may influence the Sonos performance. It’s just hoped that Sonos can react/adjust quickly to minimize negative customer experiences.

Hi @Bdbuilder,

Your concerns are valid. sonos had major app issues recently, which hurt customer trust, but the company is actively fixing the problems and improving support. If you want to buy now, check that the app is stable and that the era 300 is compatible with your existing system. If you prefer caution, waiting a few months for updates and reviews might be wise.
