In my previous experience, rebooting my iPhone or iPad has restored AirPlay 2 connections.
Hi,
not to «steal» your thread here, but it seemed somewhat similar to what I experience. When using Apple Music, I can connect to all other devices through airplay except era 100.
reboot of speaker and on/off on iPhone did nothing. Anyone had the same issue?
What did Sonos Support say, when you called them? I’d be curious if it were to be an issue with the current release of firmware, although it’s hard to imagine a significant difference in the firmware between the Era 100 and other Sonos speakers running the same thing. Perhaps different chipsets?
Same issue here. AirPlay is totally unreliable on Era 100. Just started recently. AirPlay works fine to my Roam and Sonos 5. Era100 will work from the Sonos app. Sometimes troubleshooting by restarting the device or iPhone will fix it for one or two plays, but after that the issue returns. Very frustrating.

I have 4 Era-100s in our Home and never had ANY issue Airplaying to any of them from my iPad (mostly) or iPhone (occasionally). Maybe you have a fault - have you spoken to Sonos Support?
It maybe best to reproduce the issue(s) seen and then immediately submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and contact/chat with their Staff via this LINK.
All I want to do, is be able to turn on some music and listen to some tunes, my tunes, at my choice the way I use to music was a pleasure to have and not a technical annoyance and nightmare, requiring to reboot a phone, reboot an IPad, reboot a wifi system, or tossing stuff out the window. Bad enough i have had to compromise on the quality of the product with an MPa format.
So this is a recurring problem for years, and the only Sonos Fix for this is to create software to prevent all workarounds, including rebooting my phone, rebooting the speakers etc. Plain and simple it is apparent Sonos just does not want to be compatible with Apple AirPlay systems or vice-versa.
Streaming works, with an account that selects your music for you (another long rant), simply put this is not my music and not the way I want to hear it.
If you just bought the system RETURN it before your grief deepens, for those who are beyond the return period, perhaps some corporate shaming might finally fix this long standing recurring issue.
AirPlay to my Era 100s has stopped working for me too. I’ve rebooted (music core and router) and done a factory reset of the speakers. Nothing works. No AirPlay from Apple Music or Roon. Playing via “Sonos” works fine using Roon, but AirPlay is dead. That means I can’t groups zones in Roon which is a deal breaker.
What happens when you reboot the Apple device? It’s unclear from your post what exactly has been rebooted.
Have you called Sonos Support directly to discuss it?

The Apple Device is a Mac Mini. I have not called Sonos Support to discuss it because, from what I’ve read, they are aware of the problem with AirPlay

I have now been in contact with Sonos support (Norway) and they were pretty adamant that my Sonos system was all gods from their side and that this issue was a «never heard of before» case.
they tried several fixes but what happened is that I actually can’t find any speaker on airplay on my device anymore, but the issue remains exactly the same on my wife’s iPhone.
one thing we did find out is that I can play Spotify from any device my phone, my wife’s phone and my computer.
but when trying the same devices and using Apple Music, the era 100 never connects, but roam and arc do.
as said, now my phone can’t find any of the three devices so they actually set med back during the troubleshooting and we them after 1 hour and 40 minutes of arguing decided that I had to set averything up from scratch to see if that works.
I found these things concerning Apple AirPlay (in general) - maybe something below will assist those having AirPlay issues. I honestly have never had an issue with any device using AirPlay, but maybe something below will help…
- Restart all devices and try AirPlay again
- Remove and reinstall the App being used for Airplay on the sending device
- Toggle off Bluetooth, or if already off, try turning it ‘on’ on the sending device
- Turn off Cellular Data for the App that is sending the AirPlay stream.
- Disconnect from any other Bluetooth devices (headphones etc.)
- Connect to the same WiFi network access point
- Reset the network settings (only) on your iDevice in Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
- Disable ‘Private Address’ MAC Spoofing in the iOS Network connection
- Disable WiFi calling.
- Update iOS, and speaker firmware/software
- Move the devices involved away from other electronics and closer to the main router
- Renew your devices DHCP lease via the router configuration pages or better still, reboot the router.
- Switch off any Security/VPN software installed on the sending (mobile) device
There are more suggestions than the above, but these were the core things to maybe try, that’s according to some Apple online forum users and websites I came across.
I also came across these things…
There appears to be quite a few issues with MAC OS & Airplay. See below links…
The above are just a few of many, when I googled ‘MAC OS Airplay issue’.

Yeah I’ll guess I’m going to try these as well if the full reboot does not work.
what is really bugging me is that I only have issue with era 100 really and that device is already factory reset once.
but this issue has to do with Apple Music as Spotify actually works so I definitely will be reading something from them also.
My issue with the ERA100 not working with Airplay has suddenly corrected itself. I’ve had other problems in the past with it dropping off the network, skipping tracks, to name a few. Thankfully, right now it seems to be working as it should. I believe there have been recent firmware and app updates that perhaps fixed my issues.
However, these incidents across all my Sonos devices are just aggravating, and add to my sense of unreliability of the product line over the last few months. It’s a shame my confidence with the system has been broken. You never know if you can just sit back and enjoy your music, or if something will break and you have to troubleshoot.
So I have all my music library on an old SE IPhone which i us as a large memory Ipod;
what it is i want to do:
- open my phone (now a large IPod)
- select my music app,
- select the Airplay unit (one of four Sonos)
- press play
- music fills the air
If I have problems I want to I be able to go to the Sonos App to see what the Status of the four units are; here is where the problem lies; it states everything is in place and functional, I return to the phone app and select an airplay unit and it says the sono unit is “not available” …. Now the last thing I want to do next is unplug the units, which I did, still nothing happened. I am not rebooting my wifi, this affects a large number of items, the music, although always part of my life, not worth shutting everything down and reboot.
Eventually after 15minutes of attempting trouble shouting, unplugging and replugging stuff in, turning off and on my IPhone, NOT Touching the WIFI, i look on line, read some background stuff, still have time to write a rant, continue the above Off and On attempts, suddenly it fixes itself, just like all the other times … hmmm, oh yeah NO TOUCHING THE WIFI.
Now what is the problem, speculating, but I believe the problem is simple communication. A simple function within the Sonos app giving an Accurate Status Update of the system and of each unit, Firmware being uploaded, or Firmware needs to be updated … or off line or online and working well or life is tough; I believe the problem is simply the firmware is being updated but is not being effectively communicated what is being done, or how long it will take.
Because the system just suddenly worked after 1 hour of trouble shooting; and all I did was:
- open my phone (now a large IPod)
- select my music app,
- select the Airplay unit (one of four Sonos)
- press play
- music fills the air
And “rinse and repeat” again today with the simple open my IPod ….
Communications …. I think would really help your system.
NO WIFI OFF and ON required.
I called the SONOS help line the moment I mentioned playing ERA 100 via Apple Music on my PC he said he could not help I waited 1h 35 minutes to get connected the call lasted 30 secs.
The really annoying thing is that at one stage the ERA 100’s worked fine My Moves roams and Bar all work fine it is just the ERA 100’s
After reporting here that my ERA100 was connecting again over AirPlay for a few days… of course it failed again. However, I was able to fix the issue with this process, and it has worked twice, so maybe this is the workaround.
When I went to the Sonos app, I saw music queued up for the ERA100 that I had played several days ago from the Sonos app. I clicked the queue symbol (horizontal lines w/arrow) and then the trash icon to clear the queue. I went back to Apple Music, and it connected fine. It was as if an album that I played from the Sonos app was “stuck”, and wouldn’t clear when I queued something up with Airplay.
Thanks for taking the time to try and help me with this situation, the only time I use the Sonos app is when I install a new speaker, what I find difficult to understand that all was well all of my speakers other than the ERA 100’s work fine. Even more frustrating is the fact that Sonos do not seem to give a monkeys. I had hoped that I would have got help from the people that I purchased them from, there goes another pig flying past the window. I am considering purchasing the special cable that Sonos sell that you can connect but not sure if this links in to all of my other speakers.
Sorry ranting on thanks for your help, but it will be NO from me for any future Sonos equipment.
Still no Solution from Sonos.
My era 100 is a useless furniture now.
I messaged the CEO at Sonos they responded, according to them it is only a few people who are having issues.
Our engineering team is investigating this issue; it is isolated to Windows computers using the iTunes App
Sadly at this stage the only person in this house who can hear the ERA 100’s is my wife she plays via a Mac pc They work fine as someone said previously they are a very expensive ornament.
To me the problem is Airplay 1, i have the issue with LMS (Lyrion music server) runnning on a RPI 5. Airplay is working as expected.
cheers
to clarify,
To me the problem is Airplay 1, I have the issue with LMS (Lyrion music server) runnning on a RPI 5. From iTunes running on windows 11 the problem is the same. Airplay 2, which is the protocol of newer idevices, is working as expected.
Unfortunately I do not have an older idevices to chec my theory.
but this issue has to do with Apple Music as Spotify actually works so I definitely will be reading something from them also.
This is my experience as well. Using Apple Music on my iPhone works with every other Sonos speaker via Airplay but the Era 100. Spotify connects just fine however to the Era 100 (and all the other Sonos speakers) via Airplay. I have an iPhone 16 with latest iOS installed.
Sonos has never, to my knowledge, claimed to connect via AirPlay 1. If memory serves, they’ve only supported AirPlay 2.
No, I had used it always via airplay from the same RPI running LMS, with the last speakers firmware update the Era 100 stopped working. Others Sonos models in my house are working perfectly good.
Sonos support also confirmed me that the era 100 support airplay 1 and 2.
Come on Sonos!!
