building a custom sauna, and I wanted to install Sonos speakers in the sauna. it’s been impossible to get a direct answer from Sonos whether or not they make speakers that can withstand the humidity and heat of a sauna. Does anyone know if you can use Sonos speakers in a sauna? When I did a chat with customer support, they said they don’t have any products they recommend, but I’ve seen lots of people have Sonos products in their sauna
Sonos recommends the following operating temperature range for it’s standalone speakers:
32º to 104º F (0º to 40º C)
Googling the average sauna temp gives a range of 155-195°F (70-90°C). That rules out using Sonos’ standalone speakers, if you are following the guidelines. So that leaves passive speakers made for a sauna and a Sonos Amp wired outside the unit. Look for speakers that are rated “Extreme Climate”.
The best approach would be to use 3rd party passive speakers rated for the sauna environment and a SONOS AMP that is not mounted in the sauna. The best SONOS powered speakers for the application would be the ROAM or MOVE, however, the sauna environment is likely to push beyond their limits from time to time.
Here are a few details from the MOVE 2 specs:
Operating temperature | 32° to 104° F (0° to 40° C) |
Storage temperature | -13° to 158° F (-25° to 70° C) |
Humidity resistant | Move 2 meets IP56 water and dust resistance levels. Note: The charging base is for indoor use only |
Put Sonos One on the first step level on the wall with the light (it easily stays at 35 to 40 C at this level), protect it well from water and sweat coming from above. Sound quality suffers a bit coming from under you, but for quiet listening you don't even notice. Long term humidity is your enemy on this setup, make sure the sauna dries fast after use (have battery on or circulate air well).
