My Sonos Play 1 serial number 7828CAA9FD4C3 has been stolen from my premises last week. Is it possible to track it and block it?

The police won't do anything except relay the information to Sonos, and any follow up investigation once the unit is tracked. The only reason Sonos requires the police involvement is to make sure the unit is actually stolen, and to prevent any vigilantism from taking place.

If you have your police contact Sonos and send them a report of it being stolen then Sonos can add it to their list of stolen systems, I'd hope they could block anyone re-registering it too.
Might want to ask Sonos if you need to change your passwords to sonos or any other services you were using with it too. Twitter support is open 24x7 if you don't want to wait for Monday for a Sonos response.

You say that as if the police can't deal with multiple crimes at the same time, or that crimes are not related in any way. Usually, home thieves are repeat offenders, who hit several different homes to support a drug addiction or whatever else they are into. So being able to track a stolen product is very valuable information, especially when an outside entity does a big chunk of the work for you.

Sonos requires the police be involved because that filters out the false claims by vindictive roommates/exes/etc. But pardon me for actually trying to help the OP instead of ranting.
Perhaps my suspicion the authorities would be ineffective in using the stolen sonos data to track criminals is wrong. As a simple user, there is much about wifi/lan I'm unclear about. Unless police dedicate personal to this type of stolen mac genre it seems it would be impossible for most departments to solve anything. Nice if I'm wrong which is quite the everyday thing.

I wonder if the dark web could help? My guess is once stolen only a sonos person would be able to set up or at least a lan person. Until there is more user friendlyness, Sonos may be more trouble than it's worth to steal. Or I'm wrong and criminals know their way around wifi.:$

Anybody could set it up. However, once they do, Sonos will know the IP and be able to locate it. They can then alert the police. Here's a post in another thread that explains Sonos' policy on stolen units:

I would guess that usually what happens is that the thief will sell the unit on to someone else, etc, until eventually, someone who thinks they're buying a used unit sets it up. Since this person doesn't know it was stolen, they're probably not too difficult to locate, and the police can then ask how they got the product, and then trace it back as far as the trail goes.
And yes, it's alot of effort for a single product, but perhaps they can catch a repeat thief and some of his network.
