if you get a text message on your phone when playing an internet streaming service like XM or iHeart Radio do you hear the text over the speakers or through the port? If no, is it because the speakers or port is streaming the service direct from the internet and not the phone or is it just because that does not happen when on wifi unlike bluetooth?

Unless you are using AirPlay (or Bluetooth on the Move), Sonos does not use your phone for streaming, it is done by the speakers, so no, you wont hear random audio from your phone.

If you are using AirPlay, I believe the answer is no, you do not hear it as the app audio is separate from messenger audio path.

If you are using Bluetooth, I believe the answer is yes, you will hear it, as the entire phone audio goes out through it.

Thank you! Would the same apply to the Port? I would assume yes but just confirming.
