I have an older PLAY5 plus two PLAY 1s and a BEAM and just took delivery of a new PLAY5 to be compatible with S2 I thought I could play all the new compatible stuff with S2 but then switch back to S1 to include my new PLAY5 . S1 now says the Play 1s and the Beam is incompatible and can only use the old PLAY5 as a stand alone. Is this right as it is now what I previously read?

You have to split your system between S1 and S2. The Gen 1 Play:5s must be S1, and the new Fives must be S2. Everything else can pick which one it wants.
