Factory reset

I have just bought a sonos 1 with Alexa from a friend, I need to factory reset as it has already been set up on their wi fi. I have tried holding play pause button while plugging mains in into botton, held button for several minutes but do not get flashing amber light, after about 1 minute light turns solid white, con not get amber or green light

Yep. You have been pressing the wrong button.

I do not have a Sonos One but on recent Sonos speakers there has been a separate connect button that you press to factory reset, not play pause
