The scenario is you are working out to your favorite music at 6:00AM while the family is still asleep. You go to switch songs and SONOS presents you with the usual options, from a queue or other source. You hit play but nothing happens that you are aware of. No wait, you just started Highway to Hell in the Master Bedroom and yes in this case the title is very appropriate. When a zone or room drops off, can't the controller have the small amount of artificial intelligence to tell you that you are no longer controlling the same room?
I have a PLAY1 in my university halls which has worked well, even being connected to the halls wireless network (StudentCom), but someone has just been trying to play their music on it at full volume. I assume they are trying to set their own one up but it's actually controlling mine. Is there any way to put some sort of passcode or pin number on my speaker? The last question I saw on this topic was over a year ago and wondered if anything has been done since then. Many thanks
Hey folks, Just getting into Sonos. I'm not an audiophile...just like music. I have 2 sets of tower speakers (in different rooms): Boston Acoustics VR960 and Boston Acoustics VR30. I'm trying to decide if I should sell those and buy 2 Play 5's or instead buy 2 connect Amps for them. I'm leaning towards the Play 5's primarily because they are small compared to the monstrosity of the tower speakers. However, if there is a great difference in sound (with the towers being significantly better), you can probably convince me otherwise. If only slightly better or equal, it's Play 5's all the way. Note: I don't blast music at super high volumes often (i.e. rarely), so looking primarily for great sound at normal or the rare occasion party volumes. What's your thoughts? THANKS!
Sonos' Support Team on Twitter suggested I post here to see if anyone has found a workaround for converting Nintendo Switch's linear PCM 5.1 format to Dolby Digital 5.1 in order to enjoy Switch games with true surround sound. I did some searching here and couldn't find any options in previous threads. Those threads were posted a while ago though, so I'm hoping that this new thread might lead to sharing new discoveries. Any thoughts?
CR100? One Voucher or One Per CR100?
I understand we will soon be able to use AirPlay2 to stream audio from a variety of iOS devices to the newer generation SONOS speakers, such as the SONOS 5, Playbar and SONOS One. If I'm correct, this will include the ability to stream the audio to those SONOS speakers from videos being viewed on these iOS devices. My question is whether you will also be able to simultaneously cast that video to an AirPlay2 enabled monitor with it being in sync with the audio. I know it would be a stretch, but if you could cast the video via some other device like ChromeCast and simultaneously use AirPlay to send the audio in sync to SONOS speakers, I would then say you are GODS! I guess I can pray it will become so! 🙂
iTunes Playlists - if in a folder in itunes, Sonos lists all the tracks within folder and not playlists for each album, e.g. a folder type structure. iTunes Playlists - Folder / Playlist issue - just shows list of tracks in Sonos and not playlists.
All of my Sonos speakers got wonky after I replaced my wifi in the house. I was finally able to set up the Play:1 speakers again, but the problem remains with my Playbar. It still plays audio from my TV, but it got disconnected from the iOS app and from the two Play:1 speakers that were its surrounds. I’m trying to re-set up the Playbar, but every time I press the play/pause and + buttons, the light flashes red for a few seconds. Yes, I’ve unplugged the power cord, even leaving it unplugged overnight at one point. But it always returns to this state. I don’t see any way to get the Playbar to reconnect with the app or the surround speakers. What can I do here?
I used to have wired outdoor speakers and a Connect AMP. But we moved and now I have two choices. One is adding a Bluetooth transmitter to a Connect (already own both) and purchasing bluetooth speakers for outside. I just tested this with a portable speaker and it works great even with the doors closed. Next is to purchase a Play 1 and leave it in the covered section of the porch year round (in SW Florida it never gets too cold but it is humid). My concern is if we get a windy day with rain...it could blow in horizontally and get the speaker wet. I could put it high in a rafter to avoid this. Otherwise it would be covered year round - out of sun and rain. I think to get equal audio quality the first option would be about $50 more than the second. Any feedback on either of these options will be appreciated.
My system consists of the following components: A wired PC with lots of music files A wired Marantz SR6008 AVR connected to JBL studio speakers and an SVS subwoofer Multiple Sonos Play:1s and a One Spotify A wired Apple TV 4K Google Chromecast audio over wifi A Macbook Air on wifi What is the best way for me to just have music sent to the Marantz AVR to get the best quality and consistency (no hiccups, clicks, dropouts, etc.) to a. my main setup of the Marantz with JBL speakers and b. to the Marantz AND the Sonos speakers? Will a Sonos Connect into the Marantz, with the wired PC acting as a media server be the most logical setup? Can I play FLAC this way? What limitations will I face? I also use Spotify a lot - would a Connect benefit me at all for this, too? It would seem the Apple TV and Chromecast would be cut out of the audio equation if I went with the Sonos Connect, right (that probably doesn't matter much to me; the Chromecast was cheap, and the ATV is for 4K str
How do you remove a room from your system?
I recently purchased a Playbar and 2 One speakers. I also listen to tv through headphones, and use a J-Tech digital to analog decoder with optical pass through, to split the Optical signal for both headphones and Playbar. Here is my question- setting my Xfinity X1 remote sound settings to Auto-detect for Dolby Digital seems tp produce the best surround sound for tv programming. However, when playing Homeland(On Demand) from Showtime, the center channel sound(including most dialogue) disappeared. I had to switch the Xfinity settings to stereo to retrieve the dialogue, which then limits the surround sound. Other tv shows don't seem to have this issue. Any ideas?
Hi Sometime Im noticing that the music in my kitchen seems unable to connect (or some such error) and will skip to the next song. I have two Sonos Play 1s in there and the router is a bit away from them. They're both connecting wirelessly. Would a powerline adapter help? I was thinking the wireless connection might not be great so to connect an Ethernet cable via powerline to the left speaker. As I've two (left and right pair) will it just make the left one better? Would the left communicate wirelessly with the right in this scenario or will the right always try to connect wirelessly to the router? Thanks P
Please please please give us the option to control, sync, all sound levels between Playbar and other grouped speakers when using tv remote.
Moderator note: This article was updated in December 2024. Hello everyone! We’ve seen some questions and discussion about room grouping come up recently. We have an FAQ that shows how to group along with the basics of grouping. This is a great resource that shows how to group rooms and some additional features. If you’d like a quick reference, check it out! This discussion should serve as a “crash-course” on grouping in Sonos. If you have any questions or need anything clarified, please do not hesitate to leave a comment. We are happy to help. If you're having problems with grouping, feel free to create a new topic and the Community will take a look. What is grouping? Grouping allows you to play audio content from your favorite music services and sources on two or more of your Sonos speakers, at the same time. Players that are grouped share the same queue and will continue to do so until you un-group the rooms.Amazon Alexa/Sonos One Users: Grouping in Sonos is separate from Alexa groups
Hi folks We recently bought a house and the prior owners left this gear behind. The house is setup with built-in speakers in loads of rooms (I'm guessing over 6), including outside. I'm not an audiophile and nor do I have much knowledge at all about how to setup a house-wide audio system. All we think we really want to be able to do is play Spotify in different rooms/zones..! The Marantz receiver is an NR1603 (https://www.crutchfield.com/S-wgrkdYaKG4I/p_642NR1603/Marantz-NR1603.html) and the Sonos is, I guess, a Connect. Below are the pictures of the audio cabinet and the wiring at the audio cabinet (there is a separate networking cabinet for the house): https://imgur.com/a/Opy6SfE I think some of the hardware is from 2002 (when the house was renovated and rewired), although the Marantz is from 2012 I think. Any advice about how to get the Sonos Connect hooked up to the Marantz properly (what wires go where?) and how to get that music then flowing to the other rooms wou
Just bought a playbar, do I return it!??? I have just purchased an LG oled tv which supports atoms but the playbar I have also just purchased does not support this. I’ve just heard about the upcoming new playbar which may support atmos. Do I return the playbar and wait for the new one? I’ve just paid £700 for it and will be extremely pissed if the new one is released soon and I just miss out on the new one with atmos support.
I have a spare Apple TV 4K remote control (not paired to any device at the moment) and I thought I'd use it to control my Sonos Playbar. I want to use the volume up and down buttons as you'd expect and the menu button as the mute. I go into the controller, into preferences and enter remote control setup as you normally would. I go through the set up; it asks me to hit the volume up button and it successfully recognises the remote, then it asks me to hit the volume up button three times, the volume down button three times and the mute button three times. Everything goes as you'd expect (I've set up other remotes before and nothing seems unusual) but, after I exit the set up and try to use the remote, every button on the remote only increases the volume. No decreasing, no muting - just increasing. I've tried going through the setup five times now - both with the TV on and the TV off. Every time it seems to go through the setup process just fine but I end up only being able to incre
I did a quick search and found no mention of this system in the forun which was announced late last year not sure what became of it as there are scant reviews online and even fewer stockists https://www.dynaudio.com/home-audio/music/discover Looks interesting and Dynaudio certainly know a thing or two about speakers. Anyone seen them in the flesh?
I have 3 play1's and 1 sonos1 which controls my set up.... i am so excited about these!!! Great complex sound....crisp highs ,deep lows....i love them!!! I recently bought 2 play5's, looking for something to add to the overall experience and shake my house with a bit morw low-end power....i am sad to say that i am truly disappointed. The sound is very hollow, very unimpressive.... For the price of $500 US dollars each, i was expecting to be blown away, but instead, im feeling a bit ripped off... i think if there was a more complex EQ, instead of just treb and bass, the problem would be solved. I can tell the play5 is a beast of a speaker, she just needs a little help.... So i have 2 questions... 1. Am i using the speaker for something it wasnt built for? Is it not meant to be a stand alone? 2. ANY CHANCE OF GETTING A REAL EQ WITH A FEW MORE CHANNELS? Thank you
Hi, I have just purchased two Sonos Ones, as well as wall brackets, they have just arrived but I want to return the wall brackets. Neither items are appearing in my Orders so not enabling me to process them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I unfortunately consider myself a Sonos fanboy. Not the bad kind - not the kind that'll bash on people for buying other brands. Sonos has many flaws in their current system and I accept it. I am the type of guy who bought a Sonos Play:1 and have been hooked on expanding my Sonos system ever since. And I get very excited about buying a new Sonos product even if it saps my wallet dry haha (hence the second word of the post). Right now, I own 1 play 5, 2 Play 1's, a SUB and Connect. Next up, Playbar. Or will it be...? Currently, the Playbar is very lackluster in terms of a proper home theatre experience. There is an announcement that will be made in San Francisco on April 6th which will hopefully uncover all the details of this soundbar. I have seen recently (heard early rumors a month ago) that Sonos have a new soundbar on the horizon? Codename 'S14' and it's been said it MAY have HDMI support, with mics for Amazon Alexa as shown by FCC filings. This opens so many doors. We're tal
I love my sonos system. It's amazing. One thing that would really make my day would be a way to set the alarms remotely. I find myself often scheduling a meeting while in the office, and needing to set my morning alarm accordingly. However, as we all know the sonos app can only be used when at home. This is an issue for the alarms since if I don't set it right away, I often forget about it. Could we bring some kind of server/cloud access to the account? Even if it's very limited, I think we would all appreciate this addition
#SonosOne Hi All Just wanted to see if anyone is currently experiencing a possible issue with the Sonos One not being securely screwed to the provided Sanus brackets shipping with new WSS22 "Sonos One" stands. As the old Play 1 had a screw at the back of them, old Gen. Sanus brackets (for the WSS1) had the holes and could be secured to the speakers, however as Sonos seems to have done away with the screw design together with any compatibility with previous Play 1 stands, it appears to be to difficult to design a bracket to actually firm grasp the base of the Sonos One Speakers, making it easier for a toddler to sustain damage from an unstable speaker even though the base is wide and stable it's easy for the speaker to get knocked and damaged which also potentially means more sales for Sonos due damaged Ones in the process Please comment if anyone seems to have bought one yet and concurs there is a chance of the speaker getting knocked of the bracket base easily unless the "base
How can I play podcasts from an android phone. I have installed the apps that are supposed to work with Sonos (Pocket Casts and BeyondPod), but I can't get either to work. The Sonos instructions say that the podcasts have to be in the Podcast folder in the root directory. Is that the \storage\sdcard0\Podcasts directory? BeyondPod only lets you choose whether to save the podcasts on the internal or external cards. It does not let you select the directory. Pocket Casts lets you select the directory, but then it puts the podcasts files in a subdirectory of the one chosen. Trying both of these apps and multiple configurations, I still can't get the podcast to show up when I look on "this device".
