I want to use my Sonos as the speaker for my Macbook when connecting to my Thunderbolt docking station. I don’t want the delay and quality drop that comes with AirPlay, which works fine.

I tried connecting my Sonos Era 300 to my Macbook with just a USB-C to USB-C cable and my computer didn’t see it. Looking through the manual, it seems I need this adapter: https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/sonos-ace-aux-cable

But couldn’t I just use this, as the other one is out of stock: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087RBL3BJ/

Let me know! Thank you.

The Amazon cable you linked to is the wrong direction I think. It only works from a USB-C source to a 3.5mm output, so is a USB-C Line out cable.

An alternative to the Ace cable (which may or may not work) would be the Sonos Aux Line in adapter which is designed to provide a 3.5mm socket input to USB-C output for Era 100/300/Move 2.

https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/sonos-line-in-adapter

or the combo adapter for line-in and ethernet

https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/sonos-combo-adapter

Unfortunately while the usb-c/3.5mm cables are usually directional, on Amazon the naming rarely makes it clear and the overwhelming majority of use is to connect a phone/tablet usb-c to the 3.5mm socket on headphones or speakers.
