Play 5 as a PC speaker through Line-in

Hi - I have a new (second-hand) Sonos Play 5 and want to connect it to my HP tablet to use the Tomplay app. Then I will have great orchestral backing for my not-so-great violin playing.  I guess I can adjust the delay to fit the music score. The Play 5 is connected to our only WiFi network and sounds excellent when used to play eg BBC Sounds wirelessly from my mobile. My Sonos S1 connection app sees the speaker, and the line-in connection, but no sound comes out when Line-in is selected. It is connected to the notebook via a quality 3.5mm jack sound lead to the headphone jack, which works on other things. The notebook knows to play through the headphone jack. Any ideas?

You may have not pushed the lead into the Play 5 far enough?

Oh I do hope it is that simple….let me try now….good shove….nope, lead was right in. Trying another shorter lead...reset app to line-in and yo, it’s playing from the tablet, but with about a two-second latency. Now, how do I fix the latency?

There are line in settings that adjust the latency down to 75ms, not going to dig into the new app to find the settings as I have given up on it for the moment.

I have a fix, for now. I have compressed the line-in feed and put the latency on the Tomplay music score to 2000ms. It’s now spot on. The Sonos sounds so good it is just about worth the fuss. It’s better than the Bose it replaces, whose owner needed it back, hence the Sonos purchase. For £85 on Ebay I maybe got a good deal. Thank you Belly M, whoever you are. It’s very encouraging to get assistance.
