Hello,

I’m planning to build my new home cinema (bar + sub + satellites), but I’m using siri to control my home, so one prerequisite for me is to have siri integration.

I see you are creating you own vocal assistant but to be honest I am far from understanding this, what we want is one powerful assistant for everything, not yet another limited assistant from each vendor.. Hopefully this doesn’t conflicts with any potential Siri integration ?

Especially since Apple plant to use generative AI now for Siri and make more intelligent, I would like so much to be able to use Siri from my home cinema.

I saw denon added it to their denon home system, do you plan doing it aswell ? Else I think I’ll need to go with denon, but I wanted to compare first and maybe wait a bit of something was planned from other brands.

Thanks

Note: while Google has a ban on dual coexistence of voice control systems, Amazon (Alexa) does not, you can have both Alexa and Sonos Voice Control installed at the same time. They use different ‘wake’ phrases. However, there is no requirement to install any voice command system at all. It’s your choice.

Sonos Voice Control handles mostly Sonos playback, it has little extension to other systems. Amazon Alexa goes further, but also allows control of your Sonos system. Probably best to read the information Sonos provides in their various FAQs to determine which you may want to install.

Sonos doesn’t generally pre-announce system features, other than shortly before release, likely as both a hedge against various competitors as well as maximizing marketing clout. I’ve certainly seen no rumors regarding Siri, but for all I know, it could be released next week. You’ll unlikely get any response regarding upcoming features.

Hi @fvt, the Sonos staff not always answer questions here but I’m sure they take note and for sure AI is in their table. Let’s wait to see if tomorrow somebody from Sonos could give you more information.

Below is an AI Generated synopsis of the Siri integration with Denon. Accordingly, Siri integration is not singular in that the user must also have a Home Pod. Nor can Siri work in tandem with another voice asssitant. I assume in your case you most likely already own a Home Pod. However, IMO it follows suit that Apple would not allow Siri independent integration on a 3rd party device. It’s just not the Apple way 😂

Yes, Denon has added Siri support to select Denon Home smart speakers and the Soundbar 550, but you must have an Apple HomePod or HomePod Mini on the same network to use it. This functionality allows you to use voice commands through the speakers to control music, smart home devices, and more, but you cannot use Siri and Alexa at the same time.

To set up Siri

  1. Ensure your Denon Home speaker has built-in microphones and you have the latest HEOS app installed.
  2. Verify that an Apple HomePod or HomePod Mini is set up on the same network.
  3. Open the HEOS app and go to Settings > Voice Assistants > Siri.
  4. Select the Denon Home speaker you want to add and follow the in-app instructions to add it to your HomeKit setup.
  5. If the speaker was previously in HomeKit, you will need to remove it first before adding it again.

Thanks, I understand that but to me I would prefer sticking to one assistant instead two or more. Especially that most if not all of the Sonos assistants features are already covered by more powerful assistants. I think this Sonos assistant has maybe more a marketing purpose and maybe also small usage to not too much tech people which doesn’t have an home environment with a preferred assistant setup already (Alexa, Google, Siri,…).

Thanks, yeah I read that and agree that’s not a nice move from Apple, I understand the fact that they want to ensure the processing doesn’t happen on 3rd party, but I wish they allow that with any home hub so including Apple TV, not only home pods.
Anyway I actually have HomePods already for small rooms. Just that I would like a good home theater with my home voice assistant included…
