Getting Error 1000 during "checking app version" when trying to add new device

So this happens consistently, I have restarted my phone, updated the SONOS app, turned wifi off/on. Still keeps happening, and there’s not much on error 1000….

This is what the process looks like screen for screen:
 

1: add new device
2: checking app version
3: Error code - 1000

Please help! I have browsed the support pages, but there’s really nothing on this error.

Error 100x is a connection failure of some kind. Try turning off your VPN.

Error 100x is a connection failure of some kind. Try turning off your VPN.
