For a Sonos Arc, buy a sub Gen1 or Gen3?

I can buy a Sonos Arc sub - Gen 1 for $400 Canadian versus a new sub Gen 3 for over $1000 Canadian after tax.

From what I understand the Sub Gen 1 will work with the Sonos Arc and will work with Sonos app S2 system.   

Obviously there have been changes but from what I have been able to learn, maybe the changes are not too significant.

What would you do?

Sound wise, all generations of the Sub perform pretty much the same. Other than some minor cosmetic differences, the Gen 3 has updated internal hardware and faster processing. For peace of mind, I would go with the new Gen 3. But if you are on a limited budget, the Gen 1 should work just fine.
