Sonos Era 300 won't play Apple Music using Airplay

Forum|alt.badge.img

I have a Bose SoundTouch Airplay (first generation speaker). I can group all my Sonos speakers except the Era 300 using Airplay from a current Mac running Apple Music.  The Bose and other speakers will play but the Era 300 will not. If I drop the Bose Soundtouch off, then the Era 300 will play music. This used to work. The Era 300 used to play nice. So I feel like this is an Era 300 firmware problem. I’ve set routers and power cycled and the like.

Hi @Randy Hearst

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues keeping everything grouped via Airplay.

Without seeing the inner workings of Bose and Airplay, it’s hard to tell exactly what’s going wrong, harder still since it all works together when you’re only Airplay-ing to Sonos and Era 300 only stops playing when the Bose SoundTouch is added into the mix. A diagnostics might show why the Era 300 isn’t playing, so I’d recommend submitting a diagnostics after the issue occurs and reaching out to our support team so they can check. Though, since it’s Airplay related, Apple support will be able to take a better look into why than our support.

As for some suggestions for you to test: try grouping your speakers in the Sonos app first instead of through the Airplay menu. It would also be worth checking if another Airplay device has the same issue.

I hope this helps!

I haven’t had a chance yet to run some more tests or submit diagnostics. I intend to eventually do so. So I don’t think I’ve received my “best answer” to this one yet. ;-)

I think it could be inappropriate to blame shift to Apple on this one. Here’s why: First, none of my other Sonos gear stops working when grouped in this way with the Bose device. This includes a Stereo One-Sub-Mini combination, an Arc-Two-One-Sub combination and a Move. Only the Era 300 doesn’t function, and that’s the case whether I group it with the Bose speaker selectively or in combination with other Sonos devices. It’s just the Era 300. Through all this, the Bose will always play. It’s just Era 300 that won’t play when grouped with the Bose. AND this has not always been the case; the Era 300 used to work fine with the Bose, or also in combination with all the other Sonos gear and the Bose.

But I appreciate the offer to look at the diagnostic report, and when I can get to it, that would be appreciated.

Thank you.
