Regarding compilation CD’s they look like individual CD’s for each track in the app.

they used to look ok before, is the s release issue??

Best regards

Hi @StephenDegg, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear that you’re music library is showing compilation CDs as duplicate entries. This issue occurs when the album Artist metadata is blank and is something that our team is aware of. We are investigating the issue but don’t have an ETA on when this will be fixed.

The workaround for now is to set an album artist in the metadata of the file (e.g. 'various artists'); you’ll need to re-index your music library after changing the metadata to have it reflect in the Sonos app.

If you have the metadata set for these albums but they’re still showing duplicates, then please make sure your Sonos app and system are up to date, as a similar issues was resolved in a prior update.

I hope this information helps!

Hello Jamie

Thanks for getting back to me, appreciated.

I will trying the suggested workaround I have roughly 350/450 CD’s and 25% are compilation so this is no small job.

The way albums are displayed isn’t great in the Sonos app any longer. If I wasn’t so heavily invested having Sonos speakers all around my house, I would look to alternative solution.

Have you ever looked how Plex displays CD’s/media?   (  hint .. hint )

Best Regards

Jamie

Just looked at the workaround you suggested but I don't this it possible without re-ripping the CD.

I see no option that would allow me to add a new column for the ‘artist’ in order to populate it with ‘various artists’

I see people using special apps for this, see Fastest way to tag/edit metadata of songs? (MP3's) : r/Beatmatch

Hello

On the kind suggestion from ‘106rallye’ I installed ‘MusicBrainz-Picard-2.12.3’ and modified the metadata on a single CD for testing. The CD did display correctly in the Sonos app but without any artist information.  So when playing a compilation CD you have no idea who’s playing that particular track, which isn’t great.

Plus if the Sonos app is fixed to display compilation CD’s correctly, the suggested change to the metadata is irreversible, so the artist information wouldn’t display. The only solution would be to re-rip all your compilation CD’s.

How can Sonos get this so wrong, its fundamentally the usability of the app. Being as we have no alternative apart from the Sonos app, this isn't good enough.

I think I'll wait to see when a fix/resolution is in the Sonos app, before making a decision whether to replace my Sonos hardware.

Best Regards

Stephen Degg
