Issues with Mac OS desktop app

Today my Sonos desktop app stopped working correctly on my Macbook Pro laptop.  The desktop app boots up and for a fraction of a second all looks normal, i.e., I see all of the various parts of my Sonos system show up and the music menu on the right etc.  Then all of a sudden that goes away and the app displays a message “Searching for your Sonos System...” 

This resolves to “Sonos found on this network.  Update your system.  All your settings and services will be saved.”  There are two buttons: “Update” and “More Options...”  I click on Update and I get a pop up window that says “No update required. Your Sonos system is up to date.”  

One of the choices under More Options is to reset the app.  If I choose that option, the app closes and nothing happens.  When I re-open the app, it asks if I am connecting to an existing system.  I click the “Connect to existing system” button and it tells me that the connection is successful.  I click the “Done” button and the app goes back to the blank “Searching for your Sonos System” screen followed by the “Update your system” screen and I am right back where I started.  *ugh*

I tried uninstalling the Sonos app and re-downloading and installing the app.  Didn’t change anything.  I also tried rebooting my laptop but, again, nothing changed.  

I am running macOS Ventura 13.6.9.  

What do I need to do to get the desktop app working again???

  

EDITED TO ADD:  This is especially problematic b/c I use Sonos primarily to play my local music library and I rely on the desktop app to update my music library in the Sonos system.  If my desktop app is not working, is there another way for me to update my music library in the Sonos system?

I unplugged all of my Sonos components, waited a few seconds, and plugged them back in.  The desktop app appears to be working normally again (fingers crossed).

 Can your Mac be updated to the latest MacOS or at least beyond Ventura?

From a phone or tablet, if you look in the about your system, are all the speakers on the same firmware levels and is that 16.3.3 ?

I have exactly what you describe on my iMac running Catalina 10:15:7. I had just done an update to Sonos and I am assuming that is not a coincidence.

Mind you, my iMac is a Late 2013 and other problems are occurring. For example my Office 365 cannot apply any more updates for a while now. And even Safari is having problems inasmuch as a lot of images cannot be displayed in news feeds etc. I run Google Chrome for now, but that is losing support in the next 12 months on my iMac.

I have tried switching it all off and on again, no luck there!

So it would be good to know whether this is a MacOS problem that is to be added to my list of reasons to purge my bank account and buy a new Mac 😖. In the meantime I have a more up to date iPhone and iPad.

 

Perhaps someone from SONOS could just let us know? I’m not holding my breath.

Usually the desktop app allows you to run the previous version if you can put up with the nagging to update. I’d look in your downloads folder and see if you can find the previous dmg file and delete the app, and reinstall from the older dmg to see if that works… If it does, then it maybe the latest update has requirements you can’t meet. That will mean you are on borrowed time if you keep the speaker firmware updated. 

Catalina is quite old, with no security updates, Ventura less so, but there are zero release notes for the desktop app that give any clues …

An update.

Sonos still wasn't working on my iMac but OK on my iPhone. However, yesterday I noticed on the iPhone app that my Sonos boost had somehow become unregistered. I followed the instructions to register it again, and hey presto, Sonos now works on my iMac.

I thought I would just drop that into the mix! 😊
