Question

Lossless on group of old and new products

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Is there a technical reason why when streaming to a group that contains a Sonos 5 and Play:3 that Lossless is removed for both vs streaming lossless just on the 5. I get that maybe the Play:3 can’t support it but I’ve already successfully streaming lossless on the 5. Would be nice to still support it in the group.

Surely that would mean needing two streams? And therefore no group/no synchronised play. The Play:3 can’t recognise the lossless format.

I was under the impression every speaker streamed its own feed and just time coded to be in sync. Are you saying that in a group all speakers share the stream. If so I guess there’s my answer.

You might be right; I’d understood the group streamed a common source.

Anyone out there that can clarify, please?

The Play 3 supports FLAC and ALAC lossless. Are you having issue with Apple Music lossless or local library?

Each group streams a single stream.  The stream is automatically downgraded to the highest bitrate supported by all devices.
