Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.
Home Screen
The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.
The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.
100+ streaming services, one Home screen
The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.
Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs —the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.
Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.
The new Web App
The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

This courageous new app is the SONOS equivalent of BREXIT 😁😜🇬🇧
You just have to BELIEVE and it'll be a wonderful success.
Save your trolling and poor attempts at humour for another day, or take it elsewhere. Few things worse than a boring troll, except for this latest Sonos app.
Guess you were a Brexiteer then? How's that going then? 🇪🇺😋
For God's sake give it a rest. Take your political comments elsewhere.
Sir, Yes, Sir!
Happy now 😁🙂.?
Just took a look at the Apple App Store and the Sonos app’s recent reviews are universally critical - even the ones where the reviewer has accidentally pressed five stars instead of one!
Do Sonos care about that or are they happy to see their reputation plummet?
No more hardware until they completely fix the software. I’m using SonoPhone now (which sadly doesn’t have any sleep/alarm functions but plays perfectly with local libraries), whose sales must have sky-rocketed during the last week...
I've been using the new android app this morning to play favourites via Deezer. Overall, quite a pleasant experience. Some issues but nothing catastrophic in the scheme of things.
But then, I also got this year's tax demand this morning, so anything else appears trivial at the moment 😜
@castalla Clearly things aren’t aren’t fractious enough so you dropped the Brexit bomb. You should know that brexit supporters have no sense of humour.
I am p!ssing my self laughing ( not sure, whether that is due to me having poor balder control, or your comments).

I sympathise as I suffer the same fate (not the laughing bit!)

Be interesting to see if SonoPhone adds Alarms and Sleep timers to their app in the next release 🤣. Shame they don’t have an Android version.

Yes the colour scheme quite soothing and pleasant, pitty the issues sorry I mean dozens and dozens of other issues but those colors, and damn the Home Screen has been transformative to my music listening experience , no no transcendental, like Tom Cruise Scientology OT8. 🤣

If only border control also applies to apps, it might have prevented us Brits suffering from this update 🤣

Not sure when the app was last updated - I think it was years ago (may be wrong).
The dev has 2 android apps for LMS - agree that an android version of the sonopad/phone would be a plus.

Still no word from Sonos?
I have poured over the 1000’s of negative/critical forum posts, news stories, tweets, etc all over the imternet trying to find some sort official response to this customer service/PR disaster and have not found a peep. If there is one please link to it here.
It is so sad. As a very long time customer I felt a stronger loyalty and trust to Sonos than almost any other brand. And then they released this alpha software and shook my trust. But the lack of response is now turning into an even worse mistake than releasing the new app.
Sonos, make this right, apologize and explain, then make the old S2 available again and call this new app S3 in a few years once you’ve finished and tested it.

Amen. And as so many have said, there is a short window for them to do so or thousands of loyal customers will walk away.

Yes, but where they gonna walk to. ? Comparable alternatives/equivalents are few (& very expensive, eg bluesound)
Any feedback on HEOS Denon?

I agree that moving to another system won’t be trivial but I’ve been inspired to look around and see that I don’t have to stick to the Sonos ecosystem. Sonos has deeply harmed my trust in them. I have been with them since the early days, migrated to S2, continue to add/upgrade speakers, show friends, help set up friends, etc. This weekend I’ve played with Roon which is very cool, investigated Bluesound, etc.
Some kind of “oops, we are so sorry, we’re working on it….” would make me feel better than the courage comments.

One huge negative with Bluesound speakers is that they have soft-touch plastic covers which can turn into a nasty sticky mess within 2 years (if you are unlucky). The node 2 is sticky free but costs 550 per unit and needs speakers.
Roon is way overpriced at 15 per month. LMS is free!

The only reply from Sonos I’ve seen was titled Your feedback on the new Sonos AppI don’t know how to link to it but a search should find it.

I see that SONO stock is up 3.76% so far this morning. Their decision to throw their existing users to the curb seems to be paying off. So I don’t expect them to give a flying f*** about any of our complaints. They will continue with their slow rollout of additional features to get us back to where we were a few days ago. It was very unethical and deceptive how we were prompted in the old app to upgrade to the new app when they knew well that this was, at best, early beta software. The language was something like, “upgrade to the new app for a new and refreshed user experience with the same features and access to your playlists, ...” Does anybody remember exactly how that was phrased?
I want to thank Sonos for this update - as someone who occasionally teaches MBAs I always need new case-studies of companies making bone-headed decisions.
Heads up everyone, if you haven’t heard, this new app is serious trash. Beyond the usability of it being clunky as hell, if you have any Sonos playlists, it will DELETE THEM. Yup. They’ve actually released an app update that destroys all of your playlists.
So, if you value the years of time you’ve put into curatiing playlists for different moods, moments, you name it, avoid their new app at all costs. Mine auto-updated, so I didn’t even have a choice. It just destroyed years of playlists.

Look no further than Fitbit, they screwed their users with a new App in Sept '23 and took no notice of the complaints - I'm a Garmin user now. It doesn't take much to lose a reputation, I hope Denon make a move into this vacuum.

My Sonos playlists are all there - they are in the expanded area of the ‘Sonos Playlists’ (Pinned Category).

No doubt there is risk they lose sales, but replacing a house full of speakers is different than a smart watch. This move speaks to the lack of competition cause where are you gonna go? It sucks though don’t get me wrong.
