Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

SONOS please listen to us - you really should come out and say you f*cked up and give all users a way back to the old app version - this new version is in no way ready for prople to use as even basic features are missing.

Don’t be stubborn on this - just come clean and roll it back - you are loosing all trust and credibility with your loyal costumers. Own you mistake!

I like the new design philosophy but make it a seperate download for people to choose and use if they want or need it (for new products?). It makes for a nice design preview… !

Sonos doesn’t care, it’s already got us hooked in to its ecosystem. The globalist shills masquerading as management are laughing at us.

This is hilariously disgusting. “Redesigning the Sonos app is an ambitious undertaking that represents just how seriously we are committed to invention and re-invention,” said chief product officer Maxime Bouvat-Merlin. “It takes courage to rebuild a brand’s core product from the ground up, and to do so knowing it may require taking a few steps back to ultimately leap into the future.”

I wonder if I have missed something, but there would appear to be no way of adding to the queue currently playing? You used to be able to add to the end of the queue, where has this went??

Anyone updated who has a home network library and its working fine?

I am embarrassed that I have recommended Sonos to so many people over the years.  I was able to reinstall an older version of S2 via APK mirror, but is that a reasonable expectation of the consumer, not to mention it doesn’t help iOS users?

I expect minor bugs with a new app, but the entire design contains numerous poor decisions and eliminates core important functions (e.g., control of volume of grouped zones via the slider).  Just chiming in on the off chance that Sonos management actually reads these forums or cares what their customer base thinks.

Boy am I glad that I haven’t upgraded yet.  I have rarely seen such a s***storm over a new software roll out.  Sonos will address the issue on May 14th over a public forum but the damage is already done.  In the meantime as many have suggested they should make the previous fully functional app available again for those who want to revert and offer some compensation to the community.

As a 20 year loyal customer, been on the beta testing team for years, this is, including a few buggy app-versions, by far the most horrible release Sonos have ever put out!!!

Not even early beta releases have been this bad!

Luckily, the alarm woke me up this morning, but there is now NoWay to adjust it.. unless I open a LAPTOP?!?!

As a loyal customer, I feel betrayed!

i find this new version of the app pretty much unusable. I have a large music library on a drive - this has been ordered into appropriate folders. I used to be able to add / replace a queue with the contents of a folder and this appears to have been taken away.

You keep adding features nobody asked for and removing features that used to exist - i mean it must have taken you effort to take the feature away.

When are we going to be able to link music libraries to our online drives (google, one drive etc.) I have to make a complicated workaround to get this to be the case now.

It’s going to be an ‘interesting’ AMA on the 14th for the App Product Team. I understand first hand the challenges and stresses of releasing a completely new app to a large customer base. But wow there are some significant and glaring omissions in the release version.

  • No way of adding to the currently playing queue, no way to edit the queue
  • No way to view album artwork on local library items in ‘Your Sources’
  • No way to listen to custom audio streams as the legacy TuneIn app is no longer available
  • Ghost UI on revisiting the app from lock screen with ‘Something went wrong’ toast message appearing rather more often that useful
  • I can only see four devices from my system at once in the ‘Your System’ browser. This is a by-product of the generous use of negative space in the app design system, which I have a general issue with. It’s all a bit ‘large text’ except the App homepage which seems a bit cramped.

Whether or not they’re able to discuss roadmap I hold out hope we’ll see some significant damage control and hopefully some assurance that missing or broken features are to be returned pretty soon.

Mine seem alright. My NAS is wired to my router, don’t know if that makes any difference.

Mine as well, but no playlists in the new app.

Same here, no playlist. Fortunately I only updated the app on my iPhone and not the iPad.

If anyone has updated on iOS and needs a solution , try SonoPad.

I used to use a “brown noise” station from Calm Radio to drown out neighbour construction noise in my apartment. The Calm Radio Sonos service no longer works sincethe Sonos app update. I also listen to CBC radio stations frequently. The CBC Sonos service no longer works in the Sonos app update (although it still works in earlier versions). I am not the only person complaining about these issues. Yet the Sonos status page claims both are working. Just two more issues Sonos appears to not care about.

Seconded. Installed on wife’s iPad and normal service resumed. It doesn’t do alarms but it has Nas, searching and queue editing working great

I have used SonoPad for years. In many ways I preferred it to the (previous) Sonos apps. Now it is a necessity because it actually plays services that will no longer work through the new Sonos app, such as CBC radio.

I have the new app running on Android, I now have no access at all to my large music library running from a NAS. I can’t browse it, there’s no functionality to add it, I can’t search it. I understand other people have a “Your Sources” section under “Your Services” but I don’t have this, or any way to add it.

The only reason I bought the system was to play my own music, now I don’t even have access to it. If the answer is that I am supposed to wait until July for an “update” that gives me back what I had before, please understand that I will have abandoned Sonos long before then, and will be switching to one of your rivals.

BRING BACK THE ALARM FEATURE IN THE APP UPDATE.

What a ridiculous update. Way to actively make the product worse for no reason.

In utter despair I have downloaded the sonopad app, and restored my requirements seamlessly. If you are reading these posts Sonos you must be utterly shamed that a third party app does what your own app cannot. What a disgraceful situation. If you haven’t sacked your entire team around this shambles then god help you…

My morning alarm which was music has been replaced by a Sonos charm sound.

First awareness I had of the limitations of the new app is trying to fix the alarm.  As we know, alarms aren’t implemented yet, so I contacted support for advice.

In the absence of a Windows PC or MacOS device, all support could advise to stop/fix the alarm ringing each day is a factory reset of the affected speaker.  At which point there will be no alarm at all.  Otherwise put up with the noise until they finish developing the app.  No opportunity to downgrade etc.

Absolute joke!

Wow. I've spent a few months wrestling with an unstable SONOS system. I was finally getting somewhere and then... What? A new app out of nowhere.

My music library has disappeared. 12000 tracks on a PC drive on the network. There appear to be no settings to add this.

Every time I open the app "No products found". A couple of seconds later - oh, here they are. Even though I had the app open a minute ago.

"something went wrong message" pops up constantly, almost preemptively.

Favourites no longer work. Click one and "something went wrong". Go to service to find it, it plays OK. So delete the favourite and re-add. Doesn't add, though it says it did.

The main zone display doesn't show the icon, station or programme details for BBC Sounds stations.

New UI is horrible. Volume controls have always been dreadful in SONOS apps. This is even worse. Overview is cluttered. Disconnect between zones and sources.

Give us back S2 and work on this as a beta.

A poor decision to release this.

Android app. 12 SONOS units. 15+ years.

SONOS gives no public excuses or apologies following this new app crap! WHY?

Having been a proud Sonos owner and advocate for over a decade, the 14th May AMA from the App Product Team will determine whether I give up on Sonos and explore alternative multi-room audio options, such as Bluesound or Bose.

Local library seems to be present in the new app for some but not others. I’m guessing its to do with different SMB share settings used by different people. Given the following article I wouldn’t be surprised if the new app doesn’t work with SMBv1: https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/use-a-nas-drive-with-sonos

Perhaps check what SMB version your PC is using for shares. If its using SMBv1 change to SMBv2 or SMBv3.
