Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Hours wasted last night after updating our android phones to the new sonos app.

You can revert to the old version 16 of the Sonos S2 app for Android by removing the new one and grabbing the APK installation file from APK mirror.

I wish the google play store had option for downgrading, I would do it at once.
I feel this is an early beta version and shouldn’t have been pushed out to the users in this way, but be an optional upgrade for those who want to beta test things, so that the new version would been resigned and made more user friendly before releasing to the broader audience.

I know you have a top to down driven development and deadlines is set as hard facts, release no matter if product is finished or not and then let another department to get the shit when all the end customer complaints comes.

I had a PITA to remove non functional favorites when you removed the free tunein and moved radio channels to sonos radio, no auto migration and no f***ing way to remove the old favorites unless you were lucky to still have one device with the older version.

I’m kind of thinking of switching to Bluesound just for this mess caused by you and I know it will take you a long long time to iron out issues with your beta app that you forced up on us, a month to next maybe something fixed version… you need to work faster, now on Monday we would like to have a new version that fixes the reported issues, just pay your coders a bit more for working a weekend. Or push a old version of the app to play store with a higher version number.

Please do only release apps that do work and can match the previous version in functionality to have happy customers.

Be aware Bluesound speakers are covered in soft plastic which can go sticky within 2 years?

With new app, I can only see the first 50 favorite albums from my music service. In the old app, I could see all my favorites, som basically, I can now only listen to a part of my favorites on my speakers.

What an absolute disaster.  Regretting my choice of Sonos now over Heos.  The new Heos app looks fantastic.

I’m seeing all the issues above and more.  If I change the volume on my Eras on the device the volume doesn't reflect in the app.  They have completely trashed the Sonos experience that so many people have spent £1000’s on and is surely grounds for class action?

And the arrogance of Sonos surrounding the whole situation is astounding.  Heads in the sand much?  Like most tech companies these days they just stay silent refusing to admit publicly they have created a worldwide shitstorm.  The stubbornness against reinstating the previous app suggests they don't think there is a problem and is a big ‘FU’ to loyal customers.  It’s all very amateur.

This highlights the pitfalls of buying into an ecosystem that is centrally controlled, and where a company can destroy your experience and handicap expensive hardware that you pay for.

I’ve spent too much on speakers to just ditch it, but I certainly won't be looking to add to my setup.  The speakers ARE great, but the software team all need to go.

Can't even get onto Live Chat now to address concerns… no agents available.

Worst version ever. The search option doesn’t work for file in lan storage. Every two acess to the app, the software didn’t recognize the system!!! The interface is simply ugly and confusing.

Before releasing such an ambitious (they say...) update you should make sure you have properly tested the features!!!

It makes me want to sell the whole system (actually two systems) and move on to another manufacturer!!!

Unfortunately it is 4.4 on Apple as it was years ago when I bought my speakers 😮‍💨

Apple are quite slow posting reviews.  I expect it will change over the next week or so.

This may have already been mentioned by others, but I’ve just noticed that when I select and play music from my local library via the new app it isn’t going into the recently played list on my home screen.

If I select play something from my local library via the Windows desktop controller it does go into the recently played list in the new app, but is greyed out and can’t be selected from the new app.

There are way more 1 star reviews on there than any other ones so I doubt it but thankfully the do not update reviews are on there as a warning

I dodged the bullet as with a big change like this I waited 24 hours a read this forum before doing it 👍

You should have released this as S3, separate app.   Enable your customers to try it out and provide feedback.  Similar to how your rolled out S2.     Then once S3 is ready depreciate S2.

It seams like there was no usability testing for any customer that primarily use local libraries.  Queue management is broken,  unable to add albums and let them play during the day.  Local Library search is missing.  Making Local Libraries unusable.   Many other issues.     Please repost S2 until S3’s become fully featured and is stable.    Glad I still have S2 on my Mac.

Great work Sonos - tell us you hate your customers without saying you hate your customers

Thanks, but I’ve no idea where to start with that, not IT savvy I’m afraid. Would need a list of instructions with URLs. Perhaps Sonos will put it back on Play Store while they sort the mess out. Thanks.

I know what you’re saying but maybe worth noting that the new app is still an S2 app. S1/S2 refers to the underlying system being controlled by the app rather than app version number. But I agree this new app should have been released as a beta/preview app sitting alongside the previous version for a while.

You can downgrade by deinstalling and getting the 16.1 apk version from the internet. There is a handy guide in reddit. I did it yesterday and deactivated all updates for Sonos apps and speakers

Wow, the new “brave” app is a disaster at the same level as the S1/S2 debacle of a few years ago.

Sonos needs a serious management clean out.

i miss the days when Sonos stood for engineering excellence and quality products.

The Relisten App still works on my desktop, but doesn’t load after I updated to the new SONOS App on my iPhone 14.  Once I get about halfway through the artists, I receive an error message.  Also, after updating the app, I had to re-install Relisten because it wasn’t showing up in my streaming services.  Very frustrated!  This is my initial experience with the updated app.  I wonder what other problems I’m going to find?  Is there a way to uninstall the update?

So it will support smb2 and 3 then it would be oke

Not if you have a large local library as it fails to index on SMBv2 an issue Sonos has known about for two years.

Looks like the web app is down now?

Haven’t been able to get it to load since early yesterday.

I can’t access anything at all now. I open the app and it immediately takes me to “Software update” for a “required update”. I click “start update”… then it checks for updates, and then says the Sonos system is up to date, “Done”…. and then it goes right back to “Software update required”…

Before this, I only had 5 of 7 speakers working (due to software issues). Now it’s 0 of 7. Thanks Sonos!

The new app is absolute rubbish. The update has deleted most of my playlists (though luckily I can still see them in the desktop app!), the playlist it has left me with are in fact albums from my old album list. There is no ability to create new playlists or add albums as it says all my lists are full. How dare they trash my contents, I am not happy at all. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD APP AS IT AT LEAST WORKS PROPERLY. Why should we be made to suffer because a new app has been released far too early, should have waited until it at least could have migrated my data properly and offered the same features as the old app as a minimum.

If someone from Sonos reads this please can they contact me with some answers as I am seriously unhappy. I’ve lost precious playlists that I want back!

My needs are relatively simple compared with many, I stream direct from my Spotify app through my Sonos speakers. But even this has been ruined - volume control, rewind and fast forward now have minds of their own and playback is laggy, taking several seconds to click in. This update is beyond a joke, but no surprise given it’s yet another tech company that has been ruined by its arrogant, globalist controlled management. Who not only don’t give a flying fig about their customers, but are also actively engaged in deliberately making the experience worse.

I won’t repeat what others have already said but NAS Media search, volume and play que management are a disaster.

The new app has removed the ability to control the Line Out on a SONOS Port.  There is now NO way to select Fixed, Variable and Pass-through!  PORT is listed as a compatible product, but the hardware can’t be controlled!!! Mine is stuck on pass through, so I can’t control volume when speakers are grouped.

I am enrolled as a Beta tester and have previously reviewed hardware - wasn’t invited to test this product.  I really wonder who was…..

Clearly, an App launched unfinished to support new products (headphones), bit of a shame as I doubt any long-term customers will be buying them after this debacle.  Another S1/S2 PR disaster.  The official response from SONOS asking customers to be patient is insulting.

This version had no business being released-- terrible decision.  Should be removed from the App Stores immediately.  As things stand users can’t roll back on the App Store.

Key features being removed and promised for a future update?  That sort of incremental release approach works for a new product or a beta. Not for an established product.  Now you’re just causing frustration with your users-- all so you can meet some arbitrarily self-imposed deadline.

You got this 100% wrong.
