Hey everyone!

This morning, we deployed an update to the Sonos app with a few changes and improvements to the user interface and experience. See below for a list of some of the things coming in this update.

iOS: 80.24.35
Android: 80.24.32

  • Improved Speaker Icons & Badging
    • Updated hero speaker icon for grouping / output selection
    • Add badging to the speaker icon to afford the number of targetable rooms in the group
    • Use of color to communicate selected speakers
    • Note: Web Controller will only be receiving the updated icons, not badging (numbers)
  • iOS 16 Limited Compatibility
    • Devices that are unable to update beyond iOS 16 are:
      • iPhone X, iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus (and older models)
      • iPad (Gen 5), iPad Pro 9.7 & iPad Pro 12.9 (Gen 1)
    • There have been in app pop-ups on devices running iOS16 since July 7

Important Note: In the upcoming weeks, older Sonos players will feature a distinct firmware version compared to newer devices. This change will not impact your listening experience. It is designed to maintain product support and enable future innovations without impacting your current high-quality listening experience. These players will continue to receive essential updates, ensuring they are not 'frozen.'

Has the rollout paused for Android? I’m in the UK and I don’t have the 80.24.32 update. Still on 80.23.9 and no updates available in the play store.

Same here.

UK, Android - great update on the grouping icon but, tbh, could do without the default including the '1' count when the speaker is not in a group:

The '1' makes scanning/pattern recognition harder (especially on a smaller screen) as a user should only really need to 'read' an icon outside of default states…

Just the speaker icon for ungrouped speakers would be far more intuitive, user friendly and graphically recognisable... 🤓

What’s the reason for the web controller already falling out of parity with features being added to the mobile apps?

and here... UK too...

I hope next update will fix the volume controls. Being usually between 5-15 on the volume, your solution it is very fiddly. A good thing would be if you made it more like Spotifys version, with a big -/+ on the sides.

I have to concur about the “1” being displayed when there is no group. Why the 1 denotes you do not have another room grouped is beyond me. To me it would be more logical if nothing was shown when no group exists and a 1 would be shown when grouping one room with this one etc.

I have this version and the same “room” grouping display as before

am I missing something

No, new features are enabled in app, Sonos either hasn’t flagged your account for the app update, your updated app hasn’t been flagged to enable this feature,  a bug or network issue has caused the feature flag to not work or pass through or your app is borked and needs a reinstall or forced close.

Reinstalled, force closed and even rebooted the Controller tablet, no new numbers so it is likely the slow rollout just hasn't gotten to me yet.

I temporarily disabled my device in-app tracker and that allowed the new UI to show up. Thanks.

Deezer is connected (l'ce reauthorised the account yet impossible to use today. Help.

For anyone using it, there is an app update for the Mac desktop app (possibly also for the Windows app). I had to run the app/controller update to get Sonos running this morning.

Not sure of the changes (or what the previous build number was), but I’d imagine it’s most likely just aligning it to function alongside the latest firmware update.

What’s up with the volume reduction?

I have been using a house-wide Sonos system for nearly a decade, all operated via Home Assistant. Over this period, I have set the volume of each speaker such that the volume is consistent across the house. Now all the sudden we can barely hear our music. What gives?

This is a recent change. I haven’t done testing across all sources, but it certainly impacts playback of Spotify playlists.

New firmware update won’t complete on half my units but at least the speakers still work

I may try it again tomorrow 😕

Edit

forgot I have to run update 4 times 😜

all now updated odd that it tells you that it won’t work unless you update but all mine worked even when half not updated

In future you can run it from the Windows or Mac app instead. That usually completes where mobile fails.

Unfortunately I don’t use either anymore as I spent 25 years working on IT as I am now retired I don’t use them anymore 😊

but thanks for the reply 👍

Hi! For some reason my soundbars (Beam g2 and Ray) have disapeared from my app and I can’t even Airplay to them, also my Beam g2 was connected to a pair of surrounds and a sub mini and it’s not anymore. It’s a known bug or it's only happening to me? If I connect them to my router with a cable them they work.

Have you tried powering off everything: router, speakers and phone, and then powering them on again starting with your router allowing every device to fully boot before moving on to the next?

Having your speakers appear when you plug them in is an indication of WIFI issues.

Hi @Mark W. …. Thank you for sharing a comprehensive review of the Sonos app software deployment… I have several Apple products that interface with my Sonos setup (incl. iPad Pro), so it is good to know which Apple products are supported and relevant ‘operating systems/firmware’. I do have a question relating to the Sonos products supported by the Sonos App, in particular the ‘Boost’ product. When/How much longer is this product going to be supported by Sonos/Sonos App, as this is the sole device that connects my Sonos Speakers/Sub to my Router.. Thank you for sharing your feedback…
Best, Ray

@Blighty71 - See Legacy product update

Thank you @Mr. T for sharing product update https://support.sonos.com/en-gb/article/legacy-product-update. I purchased my Sonos products starting in 2014 and gradually grown my system, with last purchases being the ‘boost’ and ‘beam’ in around 2022/23. I really hope Sonos look after their older ‘legacy’ users, otherwise I’ll be ditching my equipment in favour of a more traditional home hifi system..

I suspect (just to add color to @Mr. T ’s response) that as Sonos is no longer producing/selling the BOOST, it will continue to be supported, much as the older BRIDGE has, but ultimately, given the advance over the years with home routers, you’ll be better off ‘retiring’ the device, and connecting your devices either via WiFi, or networking them to your router with Ethernet cable. I used to have two, they’re now collecting dust in a drawer.

All of the ‘new’ Sonos products no longer connect to the old ‘SonosNet’ signal created by the BRIDGE/BOOST, I suspect that all future products will continue this trend.

I updated my MacOS. and now I can't connect to my Play1 speaker.  I have a Mac mini M1.  Sonos Controller for Mac :  Ver. 17.2 , OS S2, Build 90067171.

The Play1 is recognized and connected on my iPhone App.

What do I need to do to have my Play1 connect to MacOS?
