Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.
Home Screen
The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.
The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.
100+ streaming services, one Home screen
The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.
Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs —the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.
Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.
The new Web App
The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Ok - so you removed alarms. Its bad, but we will live with it. However, i now have an alarm i CANNOT TURN OFF, EDIT OR REMOVE. HELP!!!
Your help section says go to the MacOs App (we have no windows or android in the house). It says under the source selection there is an ‘alarm’ option. Well….look at the screeshot above, its the same as mine...THERE IS NO ALARM OPTION BUTTON.
So please….please…..how do I remove the alarm from going off everymorning short o just unplugging the (expensive) speaker now that schol holidays are coming up and we don’t need to be woken up at 6:30…
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, the new app has gotten onto my phone. How do I do the following…
Add a song to be played next in the queue
Add a song to the end of the queue
Remove a song from the queue
Clear the queue
To add additional usage info, in the queue, I get no options at all to manage it (3 and 4) and when I use the ellipsis to add a track, all I get is Replace Queue (so not 1 and 2). So I seem to only be able to have 1 song queues built up on the fly, otherwise I have to add playlists I’ve already curated in my streaming service.
The fact I’m having to ask this is embarassing, both for myself and whoever designed this app. All I want to do is manage music to play, on a speaker, and this app has made it near impossible. 😒
This app is A MAJOR DISASTER 🤬🤦🏻♂️ please FIX IT NOW
Cette mise à jour est détestable et ne fonctionne vraiment pas bien C’est une honte
I should have never downloaded the new app. I only use Sonos for home theater and my surrounds don’t pair with the beam/sub. Been on hold for the last hour with customer support. Why did they change?
RESTORE ACCESS TO MY I-TUNES LIBRARY.....NOW!!!!
There was an update today that fixed partly of the combined search function on iPadOS. But it’s still gives me problem with the messages “something went wrong. Try again.
you still need to work more on that search.
I am a user in China, and here’s my concerns about the new Sonos app:
Please let me change the order of music services. I have 3 frequently-used services, and I usually have to scroll to 2 of them when opening the new app. It can be much easier to use if I could change the sequence of music services.
In the old S2 app, I have the option to see lyric (and sometimes translation included ) of the song I’m playing in Chinese music services like QQMusic and Netease Cloud Music. In the new app, the option is gone. Please add it back.
This app is A MAJOR DISASTER 🤬🤦🏻♂️ please FIX IT NOW
Dumpster fire.
The silence from the CEO is staggering.
Please put the Play and Shuffle buttons back in the Songs section of the Music Library. There is no way to shuffle your entire library in the new app. Am I missing something?
I’ve managed to roll back my Android Sonos app to the previous one, so much better than this new one. Unfortunately even though I uninstalled the new one and disabled auto updates the new one re-loaded automatically. Does anyone know how to stop this happening?
My main annoyances with the new one:
Two selections to select radio station favourites, instead of one selection with the old app.
Radio Station ‘services’ can no longer be saved as favourites eg Times Radio or Radio Paradise. If I select from the services icons it takes 2 or 3 selections depending on the service.
I’ve read most of the posts in this thread over the last few days and was threatened with a ban by one of the mods for an intemperate outburst to another user that was trying to tell us all to calm down.
One thing that does cross my mind would be to advise everyone to disable automatic firmware updates on their systems. I wouldn’t put it past Sonos to push out an update to the devices that makes them not work with the last versions of the S2 apps. Then they would have the perfect excuse to say that they cannot re-publish the old versions in the app stores.
I have zero trust in Sonos execs since this debacle started.
Great Idea.. but i cant find the option to actually open system updates on the new app…
what a mess
GOOD IDEA!!! I turned this function off, yet last night Sonos tried to sneak a “firmware maintenance update” with a NAG notice on several IOS/Sonos v2 screens.
For our household (friends as well) Sonos’ new position on the MOST HATED COMPANIES in the US list is 3rd place behind: Comcast and EA games.
Nice job Patrick! The DOLLAR stops at your desk!!!! Fix this train wreck NOW!

For me, the loss of a short cut to the EQ settings from the Now Playing card is the most annoying omission in the new SONOS app. To adjust EQ now requires maneuvering away from your music, and going 3-4 clicks deep into the settings area of the app, and then returning. I hope that shortcut returns in the next upgrade.

Same thing for me. Yesterday I had v16.1 with auto-update deactivated and now I have again that ugly v80.
Sonos, I just hate your product a bit more every day.
Why would you release an app that isn’t ready for customer use? This is a disaster. We just want the old features back (queue management for me specifically - that was the most useful thing about Sonos). Where is the timeline with specific details on what will be updated? For example, I want to be able to not only add ‘play next’ and ‘add to queue’ but rearrange the queue like before.
An app redesign should not aim to make minor aesthetic improvements at the cost of all features and functionality. Shocking how badly Sonos has messed this up. If a clear timeline and updates are not provided soon (honestly an apology to the customers is probably appropriate too) I will need to plan to move to a new service.
File under “How to ruin a great product company in 24 hours with one upgrade!
Background
Have owned over 15 Sonos devices
been user for 10 years
have been a HUGE brand supporter
worked In technology and marketing for 25+ years
Upgrade Experience
After upgrade all of my devices are not working
support wait time is over 1.5 hours
Two separate calls with combined 5 hours waiting time and no resolution.
Dont care an=bout new features; just need my system to work.
Complete abomination of software release; have been in tech since the 1980’s and this is definitely worst system upgrade I have ever encountered
Sonos CTO is ignoring issues saying it took “courage” to release this failure of an upgrade.
Sonos brand will be damaged permanently if they do react quick and show some remorse.
Loyal customers are being ignored.
Should immediately allow for reversion to previous version 16.1 !! Support refuses to do this.
They need to get it stabilized and then replace tech leadership at Sonos.
Total customer, PR and marketing nightmare; will loose thousands of new customers and infuriate long standing loyal brand ambassadors like myself.
Here we go again.. What a crap investment this was. Now I must disable auto updates on all of my ios devices so Sonos doesn’t destroy my home system again.
I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER SONOS PRODUCT AGAIN, AND THIS IS WHY.
YOU HAVE NOT LEARNED A DAMN THING.
PSA: Alarms seem to be back. I just updated my Android app to the 13 May update and also updated system to latest version and now I have an alarms section in settings > manage > alarms.
I have just upgraded to the latest iOS version and there are no alarms under settings.
The app still constantly gives the “Something went wrong” when browsing local libraries. So I can see no improvements with this version. It’s still absolute sh!t.

Have you done a system update? I needed both an app update and a system update before alarms came back.
Hello osm, There is absolutely no way I am updating the firmware on the hardware yet.
Given the bug ridden mess that is the app software, I am not going to risk f***ing up the hardware when I can connect to it via sonoPhone and by using my ipad where the old app has not been updated.
I will only do that when this community is brim to over-flowing with people stating that everything is fixed and there are no performance issues with local libraries and the new app is ace (no pun intended). 🤣
Everyone go to the SONOS homepage, scroll to the bottom, select contact….and let them hear your complaints directly. I just did. Flood thier inbox, as it is apparent they are not reading these concerns. If they were they would pull back, rewind and put the old app back up for everyone to use until they unbreak what they broke!
I have never ever experienced an update this bad ! ! ! ! !
My good, how has this update ever been released.!!??
Extremly slow! When doing everything!!!!
When my tablet turns off the screen due to time not used, the app has to restart!!! Every Time!!!
The user experience has never been so bad, when using the app to listen to streaming.!!!!!
Now even when turning the volume up or down directly on the speakers, it has been significally slower.. Why..???? !!!!
Please let me get the latest app software back, it was so much better!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a new management in house that has retarded friends, that whants to play software engineers??
