This update is really buggy in my experience.

  1. Launch app
  2. Currently selected device is “Office”. Tap to change output, uncheck “Office”, check “Guest Room” and tap Apply.
  3. The output location now says “Office + 1” and takes several seconds to update to just show “Guest Room”.
  4. Browse for music, and add a song to the Queue.
  5. New song from step 4 starts playing in “Office” even though it was unselected before. New song does not play in “Guest Room”.

As much as I want to like and use the Sonos app, it has never been reliable and this update is even less so.

This is just a terrible update!  How to add SMB folders?  How to manage your music library?  Where are the alarm clocks?  Why is the application so illogical?  Where is all the functionality?  This is sabotage!

I got no clue who in their right mind decided to release this new big “update”. It lacks features which have been there since purchase that now are removed. Some are said to be added in a later date (no ETA, so god knows when…). Essentially forcing users to BETA test this abomination of an “update”. Fine with a re-design, but do not force users onto a software where their products looses features. Every other product owner would either do this an opt-in launch, or wait until the base functionality was implemented.

 

The big question now is when do we get it all back, if at all. Given the latter I do believe Sonos will receive a lot of reimbursement requests, especially here, as users have the right to the return their product when a company no longer can’t provide the software features that came with the product at purchase.

Read loads of these comments now and I haven't stumbled across a wholly happy one.

It seems as SONOS have already had our money the don't care.

This article goes up 16 days with rah rah rah aren't we clever, on that very same day the complaints start.

This is the most appaling managed “upgrade” I have ever had the misfortune to be on the receiving end of.

Whoever marked this app as ready for release should ideally remove themselves from the world of apps releases etc.

This product is not fit for release, gov.uk is better and more polished and tags saying something.

Tell me how to “downgrade” to the S2 controller please as that will enable me to use the products in the manner they were purchased for.

i never thought I would be in the position were downgrading a piece of software was actually an upgrade.

Class action anyone?

This question may have been asked, but I don’t see a way to search through the replies already posted. 

Will the new build try to address the frequent audio dropouts that occur when playing content on multiple rooms?  Playback often seems to be ‘bulletproof’, but there are still those frequent and frustrating skips that require content to be stopped/restarted, or rooms ungrouped and re-grouped just to get consistent streaming again.  This is almost always blamed on router issues - routers that otherwise stream other content flawlessly.  Please fix this!!

Really poor update.  Can’t connect to any music services except for the one I was using when I upgraded.  No sleep timer.  5 minutes with it and ready to roll it back.

I've owned Sonos equipment for 15+ years and I now have 6 devices in my apartment that are my only speakers because I love the sound quality, ability to move between different rooms, playing different music in different rooms, ... all the reasons why Sonos is my choice and I frequently recommend them. I'm also a software engineer with 40+ years of experience delivering products to customers. If I was responsible for such a disasterous release, I would expect to get fired.
 

I’ve owned Sonos kit also for 15years.  I had 4 devices in my last house and I have 10 devices in my current house.  
 

I am not a software engineer, but I am able to wait the few weeks until the next update to reinstate the at least some of the missing elements and fix at least some of the bugs.

The new app is awful. Missing features as alarm settings and access to my local library for music. The layout is a mess and not very user friendly. 
I honestly hope you fix at least the alarm feature and access to local libraries fast. 😥

Yet another absurdity. I'm Canadian and I like to listen to CBC Radio, whose service is available through Sonos. None of the stations will play through the new app on my iPad. But they play just fine if I use the third-party SonoPad app. Ironic, isn't it, that what Sonos has broken others can still do with Sonos gear. This is beyond ridiculous.

Was using the updated app today during the day with different room configurations and it’s the same like before.

Perhaps a class action lawsuit gets their attention. We bought their system based on the features that were advertised for their product and now they have removed many of them.

Calm Radio is now gone. The service is there, but does nothing. Two of my favourite services gone--CBC and Calm Radio.

The ability to choose to “play next” and “add to end of queue” is gone, and apparently also the ability to put together playlists. I can’t imagine there’s any real cost to retaining the queueing features (w/ play next, play last, etc), and certainly negligible impact to the new vaunted UI. Why get rid of them? The iOS app becomes near-useless to me without them.

Why? My guess is that Sonos is only concerned with marketing & selling to streaming users. It’s easier for them, and I’m sure they’d just as soon not have to worry about the headaches that come with supporting personal music libraries. This is their 2nd move toward de-emphasizing people who use their own music library--previously it was when they released voice control without the ability to manage a music library.

Will Sonos make the mistake of sticking to their guns on this one?​​ I’ve invested a couple thousand in Sonos products, but will absolutely find a way off the hardware if they do. I’ll also ensure no one else I know makes the same mistake.

As has been stated elsewhere queue management and other ‘missing’ items have not been removed per se, rather they have not yet been added in to the rewrite of the app.  The end result is the same, I get that — and releasing the app prematurely has been a huge misstep.  However queue management has been slated for an update I believe in July.  With all the bad press, maybe it’ll come sooner - who knows!

Does anyone in the C-suite at SONOS use the product?

Are there any major shareholders that can encourage SONOS to explain why they have brought such a half-baked app as 80.00 to thousands of long-time, loyal, and evangelical users?

Is there someone at SONOS who is willing to support the long time users and break-off with the product and concept in a way that is respectful to actual customers?

The current executive can continue trying to generate sales with substandard software and flashy ads to new suckers.

Not on an iPad or iPhone. Only on Android devices. I am now using SonoPad on my iPad and sticking to the old app on my Android devices. What a farce this has become.

Awful Update! Where is my sleep function??? Alarm function?? Basics suddenly missing! No Sonos recommendation for friends anymore!

I just got off the phone with Tech Support after experiencing a frustrating afternoon with the new app.

Here is my list I gave them:

( I have seen similar issues in other posts.)

  1. Favorite Playlists created in Sonos Controller will not play in the new app.
  2. A small annoyance but Sonos favorites are not displayed in Alphabetical order.
  3. Changing rooms doesn’t work for AT ALL.
  4. if I create a playlist in the IOS app it works but no queue is created.
  5. If i send a playlist from the Controller it plays to the speaker and appears on the IOS app but does not create a queue.
  6. If I choose an individual song from a favorite playlist I get an error message: “something went wrong” 

Tech Support called Engineering who advised that they are aware that features are missing and will be added in soon. 

I said to the support person that putting out an incomplete app was the most ridiculous thing I have ever especially considering the cost of Sonos devices!

We need a way to go back to the old version until the new version is fully featured and tested!!

Sonos, where are you?

Your customers are upset, and you don't seem to care. Perhaps I'm naive, but that doesn't seem to be a great way to run a business.
