The new Sonos Mobile App & Web App

Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

So they introduced overpriced headphones that no one wants and are Bluetooth only. Their ratings on Google play are 1.1 in the UK (and similar elsewhere). The share price is crashing and eBay is stacking up with people offloading their (now dead) speakers, amps and connection devices.

The Community Forum once was the best advert for Sonos products now contains their most loyal supporters raising more issues every single day, and the move to a web architecture has clearly caused everyone's system to crash and burn (as it's incompatible with a LAN based system).

And all we get is continued silence.

its horrible a lot of problem that cause the new app, plus all the good selection for better performace that normally was in the last app.they take out

i uninstall the last version 80…. in my pc and my cellphones and tabs, i reinstall from an apk the last funtional version 16.1

Sonos must go back with the last version and try maybe to fix all the problem of conexion between the Boost and WiFi in a mesh ssytem

if they want to see the app in black color just select in the device (cell or tab) Dark Mode

i call to customer service i wait for 1:20 on the reach a representative after 30 minutues of no progress in the probles the call was cut and i dont get a call back

upset and desapointed

Class action suit? I mean they have rendered my 10k of equipment useless. I yearn for the days when you could just email John and he’d reply within the day. Unfortunately the press has not picked up on this fiasco. Patrick needs step down or at least pull his head …. - And the headphones- don’t get me started - if they are anything like this app - pushed out when not ready - oy - Sorry, ranting -

Oh gawd, The Verge interviewed Spence recently.  This guy is so deep in denial.

He claims the new app is MUCH MORE quick and responsive.  BS!  They’re using their servers so the round-trip for many actions have slowed down to make the new app almost useless.  He won’t even admit they lied about the intro in their mass-email prior to the release. Not to mention the hours on hold with their 3rd party, off-shore so-called support team.  They didn’t even bother to bolster the necessary support for this junk software!

Fire this jerk!  He’s making things worse by the day!

I read that. Unbelievable. They have probably only tested it in house , sitting next to the servers. So much for 'user experience' and user testing. Our apps are polling for web services all the time. Incompatible with home audio on a LAN. The shameless gall of these people.

I have read the very scant and lame responses from SONOS about fixing this mess, but I never see mention of the problem of missing playlists. I have about 40 playlists and only 4 appear in the new app (they are still present in the old desktop app and some iOS devices that I fortunately did not update).

I’ve tried to follow this entire thread and several others, and have seen many people having missing playlists so I know I’m not alone - but none of the “coming soon” notes from SONOS ever mention missing playlists, and I haven’t seen any user discussion about any solutions.

Have I missed any discussions/responses/solutions to missing playlists with the new app?

RE-POSTING:  This says it best in IMHO.

Thank you Sonos-Remerson for your posting in another part of the forum:

My feedback… from reading all about this, rather than actually using it. So take it with whatever pinch of salt you like.

I have a (large) S1 system and was close to “modernising” it - buying 2 pairs of Fives and an Arc theatre system. After hearing all the problems and the occasional whimper of “it’s not that bad”  - not anymore.

Now, I just don’t want the hassle of going anywhere near this new app. S1 is good because Sonos won’t mess with it. S1 kit is cheap and works and won’t get broken on a whim. I know where all the bodies are buried with it. Ironically, the mishandling of S1 vs S2 _the last time it happened_ has now paid a pretty good dividend. So, thanks for that. You’re not all bad and it shows good decisions can be made when people try.

But - fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me.

One of your competitors got my sale on the theatre system. I wouldn’t have an S2 system now if it was free. Because life’s too short for me to waste my time fixing all the mess Sonos made with it. Or worrying that tomorrow when I try to use it, something that worked yesterday doesn’t today. A new system, potentially having hours of hair pulling, forum posts, resets, router changes, prayers etc. etc. Why bother? Who wants that hassle? Plug in another soundbar and it works. Plug an old S1 Connect into it and - hey presto. Plus it won’t get hosed later with a firmware update.

Yes, I’m overly sensitive perhaps compared to other people but I’d rather be listening to my kit than fiddling with it trying to make it work. Especially when it worked just fine yesterday.

Or - worse - explaining to a 4 year old why she cannot listen to Frozen for bedtime. Or woke up to it still playing in the morning… at 4am. Please try that.

I am truly sad for Sonos. I loved your kit (past tense). It’s like a form of organisational self-harm going on.

Sonos competing in home theatre was great - but unlike multi-room audio where Sonos completely dominated, there are a lot of other very good (dare I say, better?) products out there. Consumers have a choice.

I work in technology and despite others moaning here that “it’ll take a month to fix queues!” or something, I know the reality is that the “most important” features (via the telemetry collected) get prioritized and done (usually slower than the promises management make vs reality) while the rest of the shrapnel falls by the wayside once the stink has died down in a few months and is forgotten. That’s just how it works. So I am 100% confident that many broken things on the new app will never be fixed or addressed. It is what it is here and now today - that’s what I base my decisions on, not promises.

I hope Sonos keeps selling products - I really do. They’ve got great hardware (when it works). But Sonos are not going to be selling them to me. Sonos was the peak of good and convenient audio - there isn’t anyone else really the same or like them (I don’t count Bluesound, sorry). Now there is just, well, nobody and I have to make-do with a patchwork quilt of old bits and bobs.

I suspect there were a lot of people (e.g. me) who got 1-2 Sonos speakers, liked them and then went on to build out a full-home system over time. Sonos was really attractive for that. Now, not only are those users abandoned/screwed over but maybe Sonos hopes their new app will attract new users who will start buying 1-2 Sonos speakers/headphones, like them and…

Thanks and good luck to you all - it’s the end of an era and relationship for me

^^^^^^^

Thank you Sonos-Remerson for your post!

For my household we’re into over $10k for our “whole-home-audio-system” we regret NOT staying with S1.  Spence may try to play-down this debacle in the latest Verge (softball) interview, but long-term customers (especially who read/post here), know this is the biggest F/U to date and it all goes right to the top!   Friends, family, associates, are all up-in-arms that Sonos LIED, then tried to downplay the negative impact, has awful customer service (60-90min + wait times) and still maintains an arrogant ‘let them eat cake’ posture!  This burn will last until they clean out the c-suite and hire leaders who don’t ruin companies (Blackberry anyone?).

The arrogance of Sonos towards their customers is something completely incomprehensible.

Just fired up the new Sonos app at my lake house for the first time (my primary residence is still S1).  Grabbed a glass of wine, about to cook, tried my 15-year habit of tossing a couple of Top Tracks collections from Spotify into the queue … and …

Add to Queue, Play Now, Play Next … all gone!  What’s up SONOS?

I vaguely saw that these features would come back in a future release on iOS.  But this is like CORE functionality for SONOS products, and what sets them apart.  How do you do user acceptance testing and skip these critical capabilities?

Can we get a development roadmap with at least indicative timelines on recovering features from the prior app?

Could not believe what happened to my system was real—surely they idiotically buried the local music somewhere a couple of clicks deep? It’s got to still be there, right???

But nope.—I spent the last hour skimming this 1000+ strong thread and that ridiculous interview w/ the CEO. It’s true. My local library is gone, as far as Sonos is concerned, and I can’t find a way to bring it back (even on the desktop app). It sees the last albums I played from my local library, but nothing else. I hope someone can tell me I’m missing something obvious.

THIS IS LITERALLY WHY I BOUGHT INTO THE SONOS SYSTEM.

Any old-timers remember when you bought an amp, plugged in your speakers, ipod, CD player, turntable, cassette player, etc., and PUT ON SOME MUSIC? I’m going back to my same ol’ used to be. Gimme wires, glorious wires…

“We have the most passionate customers...” Fuck you, Spence
