Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

I can just about live with the terrible UI makeover that seems par for the course with virtually any phone app supplier these days who cannot resist employing a team of UI designers straight out of college with absolutely no idea how their customers actually use the controller app.

What I absolutely cannot accept from any company is to release such an ill judged and ill thought out update that removes so many basic functions that your users rely on. In my case: -

  • No sleep timer - this is basic functionality. You have plenty of products in your line up that sit happily on a bedside table.
  • Unable to edit any existing alarms, just enable/disable existing ones.
  • No volume scale on the device you are currently using for playback.
  • The manage networks area is blank in the system settings.  Some of us with semi-professional home Wi-Fi platforms like to keep the Sonos network well away from 2.4 GHz channels in use by by our access points.  I now have no idea which channel Sonos is using.
  • The new search functions seem to be broken - no results are returned from my library of FLAC rips.

I now have to keep an un-updated Android phone in the bedroom just to set a sleep timer.

What an absolute car crash of an update.  Shame on you Sonos for ever thinking that this was in any way ready for release.

New app is truely a dumpsterfire.
Search function not searching my library - I dont care about online “services” I just want to access my music without endless scrolling,

Oh! And I cant add tracks to the queue, only replace the whole thing.

I hope they will make improvements, but I’m not optimistic.

I don’t yet have access to the new mobile app, but I have just tried the new web app.

A few observations

  • Interface looks nice and is intuitive but it seems extremely sluggish.
  • It's annoying you can't use the web app without signing into Sonos.com account. I don't really want to give everyone living in my house my Sonos.com login credentials. Although it seems you can’t do any system admin from the web app, the credentials would give system admin rights if used with a mobile app.
  • As others have noted, its annoying that you can't search local library.
  • Its annoying that you can’t clear the queue.
  • It’s annoying that you can’t re-order the Favorites sections.

It's annoying that it just produces an internal server error page

Also can’t change the sub volume on my Amp.

What a disappointment.  Why on earth would you take away the sleep timer function? The number on the volume lever slider? The navigation is the opposite of streamlined.  The team that designed this should be fired today. The sleep timer thing is a HUGE issue with me.  I listen to music while falling asleep, I don’t want it running all night.  What a colossal mistake taking that function away.

Agreed. The sleep timer function is something I use regularly.

The iOS app is, to be polite, clumsy.  But my question is about the desktop app - is that not being updated?  Or is that in the throes of being phased out in favor of a web-based app?

The Web App was launched yesterday too. It’s for use with Desktop devices PC/Mac.

One more HUGE complaint, every time I open the app it asks me to turn on Bluetooth.  Initially the big “advantage” of SONOS was it didn’t use Bluetooth now it asks you to turn it on even though you aren’t using it….dumb!!

Well done for you 😁

It worked once for me then consistently produces the internal server error.

Thanks.

I was just on the phone to my Son and the Web App/App are each working for him too at his home. My wife can get the Web App up on her iPad (Safari Browser) aswell. Maybe it’s something local to you.

New Release, awful

Please advise how to roll back

Withdraw this new release until it is actually tested.

As one of your beta tester, not on this one, I cannot believe this has been tested by anyone

Thank you

Which is fine but we’re all quite capable turning it on if we want. Shouldn’t automatically be asked to. I hate having Bluetooth and Location stuff on, so it’s just a peeve of mine 😀

But what if one doesn’t want to use a “web” app and prefers the existing Desktop app? Is it going to be phased out?

Has or will Sonos publicly address any of this chaos? Some sort of blog post or something acknowledging the problems and what plan (if any) is in the works to address them?

Can’t imagine how many support calls/emails/etc they are getting right now.

This new app is terrible! First, it cannot find my system. Then, looking at the screen, it is NOT intuitive at all. How can you have gone from an app that worked so well to this mess and feel good about it?

The web-app is a joke! There is a noticeable delay for everything you do. Are they really sending all commands via their servers and not locally? Absolutely terrible decision.

Just noticed another problem, with the Sonos Roam. On the speaker page, it used to show the charge level of the Roam devices. That’s no longer there. I can tell that the Roam is on the charger, but not the percentage of the charge. There’s never been a way to tell this on the Roam itself. It was only available on the app. So now there’s no way to know if you’re at 90% charged or only 30%.

Does anyone know of an alternative to the Sonos app on ios?
I need to access my library locally, (SMB or Subsonic equivalent)
I'm really disappointed with Sonos, how can they release such a disastrous app, they should have left the old version alongside the new one.

Please provide a way to go back to the old version ASAP. I use Sonos almost exclusively for my local library as it seems many people do and you have again (think bricking...) completely misunderstood your owners and people that have supported and invested in your products for decades. Congratulations on creating another media disaster for the company. I am sure the new app is trending on all platforms with angry users and people looking for alternate products. PLEASE LET US GO BACK to the old version until you sort this out.

On initial examination (and limited play) I think that you’ve managed to turn something which was quite streamlined and simple into something which is cluttered and clumsy, and certainly initially does not work as well.
