The new Sonos Mobile App & Web App

Today we are introducing the most extensive app redesign ever, creating an unprecedented streaming experience that allows listeners to organize their favorite playlists, stations, albums and more from over 100 services on one customizable Home screen.

Home Screen

The new Home screen provides faster access to Sonos system controls with one easy swipe up, making tab to tab jumping a thing of the past. As a leader in sound experience that’s focused on creating a better way to listen, Sonos intentionally redesigned the app on a modern software platform for an easier, faster and better experience that can support more rapid innovation.

The reimagined app supports all existing S2 products and will be available globally through a software update for the S2 mobile app.

100+ streaming services, one Home screen

The redesigned Sonos app prioritizes a listening experience that’s human - allowing you to bring your true favorites front and center and giving you more control to make your streaming experience your own.

  • Get into your music (and off the app) faster: No need to tap between tabs — the new Home screen serves up all your favorite content and controls, all in one place. Quickly jump back into your recently played, browse libraries and recommendations from your preferred services, and fill your home with music and all the sounds you love.
  • Customize and curate: Enjoy unparalleled curation by designing your Home screen to reflect how you listen. Pin rows of your favorite content and services; then move, edit, or rearrange them to your liking.
  • Search every streaming library: Look for an artist, song, podcast, or audiobook across all your preferred streaming apps at once via an easy-to-use search bar that’s always available right on your Home screen.
  • Elevated system control: Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen to seamlessly control your entire system and access a visual overview of what’s playing on each of your products, quickly group speakers, and dial in on the perfect volume from anywhere in the app.

Accessible from any modern web browser, a brand new web app allows listeners the same seamless system control as the mobile app.

The new Web App

The Web App will be available alongside the redesigned mobile app on May 7, 2024.

Hey folks. Just to confirm, the German blog explodes by criticism as well.

In the future this launch will  serve well in economics and management schools as an example how to destroy customer relations in a sudden and intentional way.

And what lessons will be learned?  Just how to better dupe the punters?  Very little will change because the basic economic model is false.  Long Live Open Source! 😁

Fortunately I dont allow my android to auto-update and can use that as a backup along with the PC app until you sort out this debacle.

I fear there's no way going back after you already updated the app such as in my case?

It’s OK everyone, Sonos are here for us! The fact that they seem deaf to our overwhelming unhappiness - sharing our feedback as they put it - is no great surprise. Only a fall in sales will get their attention.

I am so mad about the new update.  It is worthless.  I am so furious that I am seriously thinking about shit canning my whole system.  I cannot create queues, update the queue and it forces me to use the new update.  This is similitude the new Coke introduction in the ‘90’s.  Something the consumer did not want.  Thank God I didn’t update the app on my iPhone.  At least I can use the Sonos system the way I WANT TOO not some elitist in San Francisco who thinks they know better than I!  Horrible update

The new mobile app disconnected all my devices and cannot reconnect now

Noticed another problem with the new app, I now can not play the same music on multiple Sonos products at the same time.  When I check the box to add another speaker, it just says unable to connect and please try later?  The speaker is fine when I play music on it on its own.

Sort it out please Sonos you can't palm this s*** off on your paying customers.  We are not a replacement for your own testing and debugging.  You are doing damage to your reputation.  Urge you to roll back to the previous app version and go back to the drawing board with this new sack of.

Please revert to the old design.  This new design is so bad I am ditching my use of the iPhone and iPad apps and just using the desktop app because it is still straightforward to use.  If they change the desktop app, I may just abandon Sonos altogether.  Enough with change for the sake of change.  All of these swipe up dialogs are just poor UX, in my opinion.  Is there a way I can go back to the previous version of the app?

My use case is:  I have a local NAS with all of my music on it.  I don’t use playlists and I don’t stream.  All I want to be able to do is quickly and easily browse my music library on the NAS and add individual tracks or an entire album or an artist to my queue for a specific speaker and play music.  Simple, right?
