I have a Roam 2 speaker, and I’d like to use its wake-up function to play every day around 7 a.m. However, I don’t want to keep it on the wireless charger overnight, even at full battery, as I’m concerned about preserving the battery health.

The issue is that the alarm doesn’t go off consistently. It works when the speaker is on, connected to my phone, and set a minute ahead for testing. But when I leave it overnight, the alarm fails to go off, and the device doesn’t appear in the Sonos app in the morning.

Is there a way to ensure the alarm works without having to keep it constantly on the charger or connected?

Hi @Rosted420, welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear you’re having issues with your alarm playing consistently. If your Roam is missing from the app in the morning, then that’ll be why the alarm isn’t working as it can’t target the player.

Just for your information, the Roam 2 can be kept on the charging base overnight or even when fully charged and leaving the Roam on the wireless charger will not effect the overall lifespan of the battery.

What is most likely happening, is that your Roam is going into sleep mode (which happens after no audio is played on the Roam for 30 minutes). When in sleep mode, an Alarm wont wake up the speaker, so it wont be able to trigger. My suggestion would be to try a night where your Roam is left on the charger and the Alarm should play the next day.

I hope this information helps!

I am having the same issue for some time. The behavior is inconsistent, it often happens that the playlist starts, and then stops after a few seconds or minutes.

After asking the support five times, I got an “undocumented” explanation. The issue seems linked to the “grouping” behavior:

* If the portable speaker goes to sleep, it will ungroup and no alarm will play to it
* Any Portable speaker that is asleep will not play alarms
* Keep Portable speaker plugged in or on the cradle (i.e. "awake") to have the alarm sound

However, it is in contradiction with the official documentation. The latter states that only the “Battery saver” would be an issue:

When the Battery Saver setting is turned on, the portable Sonos product will fully shut off after 30 minutes of inactivity instead of going to sleep. This prevents it from waking up to set off scheduled alarms.

Very very frustrating.
