Roam sleep issue

I’ve been playing around trying to diagnose a weird issue with my Roam. About 6-9 months ago, I started randomly getting issue with the Roam going into deep sleep mode and not waking up with the app or using a magic packet for Wake-on-LAN. I’ve been playing around with a few things and it seems to be related to the charge state. I keep my Roam in the bathroom most of the time and charge it from a USB power bank every few days. I’ve noticed that when the Roam has been charged from the power bank, it no longer responds through the app.

I believe there is an ‘on-charge’ state flag being set that gets confused when the power bank goes to sleep after it’s completed its charge. This wasn’t an issue for the first two years I owned the device, so I believe it’s been introduced in a recent firmware. I’ve checked both the app and firmware for my device and I’m up to date.

When the Roam is attached to the wall, it wakes up as expected, or if I disconnect from the power bank while it is on, it wakes up again. It seems to be specifically due to going to sleep with a power source attached, and then that power source being removed.

From the app:

App Details: Build 99.01.9

Roam Details: Version 18.7 (build 96.1-79270), Hardware Version: 1.33.1.10-2.9

Also, it’s really annoying that there isn’t a bug report email address.

The bug report process is to recreate the issue and submit one or more diagnostics, then call Sonos support.

Are you sure it’s not the battery saver function kicking in and turning the Roam off? You can test by turning the Battery Saver off to see if it still happens.

I’m going to assume the app is 88.01.9 and that was a typo. 🙂
